Hi and welcome to my tutorial on Gospel [N] Chops
R&B style guitar solo ideas
in the key of C sharp minor or
E major.
You see E major
is relative to C sharp minor so we can use the same notes to solo
in either key.
And if you haven't checked out my most popular video
which has now reached over a million views on YouTube
check out how to play an electric guitar solo
without even thinking about scales.
There's a link in the description below
to get you there.
The guitar is tuned standard
[B] E, A, D, [G] G
[B] B, [E] E.
[N] This is video one
and in video one we will not reference scales
we'll just go to the guitar and find some places that we can get some sound
that will work
in this key.
Video two and video three
will cover scales and scale
explanations.
So let's get started.
First
we'll find some notes that we can try to use and then we'll put on a backing
track that I've put together with band in a box
in the key of C sharp minor slash
E major.
We'll be working at fret 9
[Db] alright.
For our first solo [Ab] we're going to play notes
only from that [E] fret.
[Bm] [E]
Like that.
[N] Here we go
notes only at fret 9
[Db] [Abm] [Db]
[Ab] [B]
[Db] [Abm] [Dbm]
[Bb] [A] [E]
[Eb] [Db] [Abm] [Ab]
[Abm] [A] [E]
[Ab] [Dbm]
[Abm] [A] [B]
[B] [Db] now that we know
that notes will work at fret 9 we're going to move
to fret 11 and play across those two frets
like this.
[Abm] [B] [E]
And when we get to the B string
[F] we'll bend it like this [Bm] so [Abm]
that [Db] it sounds better in the key
[Ab]
[Gb] [G] as far as the high E string is concerned
we'll only use it for passing [Gb] tones like this.
[Dbm] We need to get [Eb] off
of that note right [Db] there.
[B] But if we land on that note
it doesn't sound too good in the key.
[Db] Alright so let's try this out with our track
[Abm] [Db] [Abm] [A]
[B] [E] [Db]
[Abm] [Dbm] [Ab] [A]
[B] [E] [Ebm] [Dbm]
[Abm] [Dbm] [Abm] [A]
[B] [E] [A] [Dbm]
[Abm] [Dbm] [A]
[B] [E] [Ebm] [Db]
[Ab] [Dbm] [Abm] [A]
[B] [Db]
alright that wasn't too bad at all
now we'll add one more fret.
We'll go to fret 8
and use those notes as leading tones
[G] to fret 9 like [C] this
[B] [B]
[Db] so we can play [Ab] things like this.
[Eb] [E]
[B] [E] We want to try [F] to bookend
on fret 9 as much as [Db] we possibly can.
Alright let's try that and see what we can get away with
[E] [Db]
[A] [B] [E]
[Ebm] [Db] [Abm]
[Bb] [A] [B] [E]
[Ebm] [Dbm] [Abm] [Gb]
[Abm] [A] [B] [E]
[A] [Db]
[A] [B] [E]
[Ebm] [Db] well alright
that sounded pretty good just playing around with three frets on the guitar
in this key.
In our next video we'll talk about
using scales and explaining why they work
thanks for watching and have a great day
