Hey guys, thanks for tuning in today.
We're going to cover one of the most popular traditional gospel progressions that you might actually see in your everyday church encounters.
So it's the typical 1-6-2 [Em]-5-1 with a 1-4-5 turnaround.
So let's dig into it.
Alright, so let's start by reviewing the progression.
So we're going to be in the key of C [C] and we're doing C, [A] A, [D]
D, [G] G.
[C] So if we're just talking about the number of degrees, we're doing 1 [A]-6 [D] -2 [G]
-5 [C]-1.
So if you're a little confused about that process, just check out the previous videos that we posted in the past.
You'll see a link in the description.
Alright, so let's look at the chord types for those.
So we're going C, A [Am] minor, B minor, [Dm]
G, [G]
C.
[C] We're going to do a small turnaround where we're going to the 4 or F, [F]
[C] back to C, walk up, [F] [F#] [G]
5.
So that was walking from [Em] E
[F] [F#] [G] to G.
So let's put the foundation together.
[C] [Am]
[Dm] [G]
[C]
[F] [C]
[G]
[Em] Alright, so now it's time to spruce it up [C] a little bit.
So we're going to change some of the chord types.
So instead of using the major C, we're going to start with a dominant 7.
So this is the full chord, but I'm only going to play [B] the middle 3 strings of it.
[E] [D#] [D] [C] [C#]
So we're going to keep that dominant 7 [C] and walk it all the way down [E] to the A.
[Am] So instead of playing an A minor, we're going to [A] play an A7.
Here are the full chords.
[C] C, [B] [A#]
[A] A.
[Em] So instead [Dm] of playing a regular minor, D minor, we're going to [C] actually play a D9.
But we're going to put a little cool lick into it.
[D#] [E]
[B] [D] [D#m] [C#] [A]
[G] [F#]
So we're breaking that chord, [E]
[D#] [D] [C#]
walking from [A] the A.
[E] [Em] [D]
[Am]
Now we're going to go to the G, [F#]
[G] [Am] [G]
[Am] [F]
[C] back to C.
[F] [G] [C] [F] We just walked up to the 4 or F.
[C]
[F] [G] [C] [F]
[C] C.
[E]
[F] [A] [F] So we just [G] played a 5 over 4.
So what that is, [F]
that's the F chord.
But we're putting the [G] G in the bass, and we're also putting it on top.
[F]
[C] Let's briefly talk about a small turnaround you can do.
So here it is.
[F] [C] [B] [A] [Dm] [B] [C]
So we're taking that C chord.
So we're going from C, [F] D minor [Dm] 7.
[C]
[F] [C] Or it can actually be an [F] F.
[C] So C, [F] F, [C]
C, F [B] step down, B,
[Dm] D minor, [C]
C.
Here it is.
[F] [B]
[Dm] [C]
So let's put it all together.
[D#] [D]
[C#] [A] [G#] [F#]
[Em] [Am] [Em] [Am]
[F] [C] [F] [G] [C]
[F] [G] [C]
[E] [F] [B] [C] [B]
[Dm] [C]

[F] [Am] [F]
