What's going on gospel chops, I'm G blizz
Today, I'm going to be showing you some licks that can be applied to modern gospel and traditional and shouting music
And I'm also going to talk about the art of the hammer on
Lick one is in the key of C sharp or B flat minor and it consists of a sliding technique very [Am] fast sliding technique
Breaking [D] it down.
It's just a chromatic half step
back down fast it sounds like
[Bb] And here's a lick
[F] A lot of this lick it consists of the hammer on so I'm only really picking three times if you look at [C] my hand right here
[Eb] [Db] [Fm] We slow it down for you guys
[Eb]
[Bb]
[Eb] [Db] [Bb] [D] If you need to review you can rewind and check the slow part of again the second lick same key
Consists of chromatics mixed with the minor [Ab] scale and it goes like this
[Fm] [D]
[Eb] [Ab] [C]
[Eb] [Ab] [Fm] [C]
[Ab] The third and final lick is very pretty.
It's actually a harmony for the first half of the lick
Goes like [Eb] this
[Bb]
[Eb] [Eb]
Now we're moving on to the more traditional quartet [F] shouting music style licks
Lick one is in B flat and it's used over standard quartet [Bb] B and it can be sped up to be used over shouting music
[G]
[E] [Gm] [G]
[Eb] [G] [E]
[F] Lick two it can also be used over shouting music and quartet
Depending on how fast you play and it's also B [A] flat.
So here's the quartet [G] style
[C] This third and final lick is [F] like a run you can do over the shouting [Bb] music or the gospel throughout a whole entire section
So [Ab] there's two variations of it as well.
First variation is
[Eb]
[F] [C]
[Bb]
[Eb] [Bb] [F]
[Eb] [Bb] [F]
[Bb] Now [A] here comes the fun part I'm going to show you guys some of the art of the hammer on
[Bb] It's consisted in
C minor [A] we're gonna do it in E flat [Eb] major and it's
Based around the minor [E] scale and the pentatonic scale mixed together and there's just a lot of different variations
So I'm just going to show a couple of them and play a couple of the chords that they go over
So for instance, you can play an [Eb] E flat major
[F]
Then go to [Ab] the four in the key, which is the a flat major seven
[C]
[D] [N] And then you know you could do it in the chords as well so this is like a flat major [Ab] seven chord
[Eb] [Ab]
[C] And then the root chord the [Eb] E flat major [Bb] move on to the two chord, which is [Ab] the F minor [Fm] seven
[Ab]
[Gm] [Ab]
Another hammer on is the [E] major nine chord.
[D] So the position is like that
[D] See that
[Fm] And you're hammering on the pinky
[G]
[Eb] [C] [C]
[Fm] [F] [Bb] These are just some examples and [Em] variations of the hammer on the beautiful thing about the hammer on is that?
It's something in music that the guitar player owns
[N] Be on the lookout for shed sessions volume 3.
I'll be featured on that DVD
It'll be available on gospel chops calm real soon
