Hey guys, [Gb] we got a really cool lesson for you today.
We're talking about worship music and how we can use our effects to kind of build the worship atmosphere.
So when I think of worship, I think of simple, pretty much out of the way, so the audience
and the worship leader can kind of lift their environment.
So some of the tools we can use are reverb, distortion, and a little delay to kind of
thicken our sound so that we're adding ambience to what's going on because when you're in
a worship experience, you kind of want to be out of yourself.
So ambience helps us kind of skew our perspective so we don't seem so closed in.
But really fast, we're using the Greatest Apple, we're using one of my favorite songs
more than anything.
So at the tail end, we're using a few worship [G] chords, just a few sus chords, and I'll play
those for you.
[Ab]
Alright, [Eb] so we're in the key of A flat, [G] and so what the bass player is doing,
[Db] so [G]
he's
going G, A flat, [C] C, [Dbm] D flat.
[F] Alright, so that's the 7, [C] 1, 3, [Db] 4.
[Ab] And so for us guitar players, we're going to play a couple of inversions, so for that
7, we're going to play the 5 chord, we're going to do the first inversion, [Eb] so that's
E flat for us.
And then we're going to go from an E flat to a sus 2, so 1 sus 2, so that's A flat.
And then we're going to do the same thing [Ab] over the 4.
So that's 1, 4, so the first inversion.
Alright, [E] so then we're going to add a little flavor, go up to the 6.
[C] [Eb] [C]
[Db] Alright, so we got [F] L, that's the [Eb] 6, the 5 would be [C] E flat, [Dbm] C, D flat.
[Fm]
[Cm] [Ab]
Alright, so now that we have the chords, let's kind of add our effects to make it thicker.
And so really fast, I'm going to play the major scale,
[Em] [E] or I'm going to use my major
scale [Em] pentatonic shape over that F block.
[Fm] [E]
And so what I like to [F] do, I like to bend up or slide up to the third [Gb] degree of the scale,
or kind of bend those half notes in the scale, so those [B] half notes would be [C] from the 3 [Dbm] to
the 4, [Em] or to the 7, [E] to the 1.
[C] And it sounds really cool, so let's start in the higher register, let's go to that third.
So we got C, we're [Eb] going to do a half step [C] up to D flat.
[E] We can do that in the higher register.
[C]
[E] [N] Alright, so now let's add distortion, reverb and a little delay.
[E]
[F]
[D] [A]
We can also use our volume pedal, I have a volume pedal on the floor.
If you don't have a volume pedal, you can use your pinky and the volume knob.
So let's see what [Em] that feels like.
[F] [Eb]
[C]
So, I'll demonstrate that with the track, you can kind of get a feel of what's happening.
