[N] Hi, I'm Kevin and today we're going to play Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out,
written by Jimmy Cox in the 20s and covered since then by many artists like Janis Joplin, Nina Simone,
Otis Redding or Eric Clapton.
First of all, you can play this song with a pick or use your fingers.
I will do finger picking [Gm] and as always you'll find the chords in the description.
So let's start with this little [A] lick.
[B]
[Cm] And the important thing here is to finish with a ring finger on the third fret of the C chord
because the first chord will be a C chord and you'll [C] need your finger there.
After this we use these three fingers to play the D, G and B strings of the C chord
and then mute the strings with [A] our fist.
[C]
So
[A] Now comes an E7 chord [B] and again thumb, [Bm]
fingers [A] and mute.
A chord [C#] and A7 but this time you play once and let the [Dm] chord ring until you mute.
D minor,
[C#] A7 and now comes D minor, A7, [Dm] D minor.
[Gm] Changing quickly between chords.
So let's play all together slowly.
[A] [B] [C]
[B] [A]
[G] [Dm] [F#]
[A#] [G] [Dm]
[A#] A [G] [A] bit faster.
[B] [A] [G]
[D] [A#] [G]
[Dm] Now [D] we play open D and then [D#] first, [E]
[Fm] second and third fret.
With our index, middle and ring finger and [D] finish with an F chord
but only playing the G and B string.
So [E] [F] mute and take our pinky to [F#] the fourth fret
[C] doing an F sharp D.
And then
we play the reverse lick.
So instead of starting on the open D
we start on the third fret and on the open A string.
[A]
And play second, first and open string.
I do it with a [C] slide
[A#] [A]
but you can [Cm] play it [B] just.
[A#] [A]
[C#] And then we play an A7
letting ring and mute twice.
[D#] Let's play the last parts.
[A#] [F] [F#]
[B] [A#] [A] [G]
[D] Okay, now comes D7, thumb, fingers and mute.
D7,
ring [G] and mute and G7 playing the same pattern.
And then we can start all over again the song.
So let's play one time
slowly and then we
play the first part.
Speed up a [B] [C] bit.
[Bm]
[A] [G]
[D] [E] [G]
[Dm] [E] [F] [F#]
[B] [A#] [F#m] [C#]
[D]
[G] [C]
[B] [A] [G]
[Dm] [A]
[A#] [F#m] [C]
[A#] [F#m] [G] [D]
[B]
[G]
So
we start on the G7
and play the reverse lick but playing twice each [Cm] note.
[B] [A#]
[A] [Gm] And then play the first lick we learn but
finishing with our middle finger
[F#m] [C] to play this sweet [F#] C [C] add9.
Let's repeat the ending.
[B] [A#] [A]
[B] [C] And then we play the last part.
Well, that was all.
Thanks for watching and as always if you get any request or any doubt feel free to comment.
See you on the next video.
Bye.
