How to Play "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" by Jimmy Cox on Guitar chords
Start Jamming...
[D] Alright, so this is the finger picking part of Nobody Knows You When You're Down [E] and Out.
When [G] you start on that C chord, with [Db] your right hand, you're going to pluck the [D] A with your thumb,
and then you're going to use all three of these fingers on the next three strings.
Little, little, [C] little.
Two fingers.
[Ab]
[C]
[G] [Ab] So that's the part you [Bb] play on the C.
And [Eb] then right [E] after that, you're going to hit this open E string.
And then you're going to do this little hammer-on.
[G] [D] [C] You're going to hit these two middle strings, [Ab] the D and the G, open.
And you're going to hammer-on the first fret of the G right here.
[G] [D]
Then hit your open [E] E string.
And the [D] third fret of the B.
So [G] this E7 part you got.
[E] [D] [C]
[G]
[C] You got C.
[E]
[G] Then you're going to go to the A chord.
[A]
[D] So you're actually just going to start with that second fret right there.
And then you play the [A] A string.
[D]
Put your pinky on this last string of the third fret, and [A] you're going to go A, A with your thumb,
and then these three fingers play the last note.
[D]
A [A] plus E.
The fingers stay.
So the [Ab] part when you get to the A7, you're [A] going to do.
[Ab] [A]
So those first [E] three chords, you got [C] C.
[E] [A]
Then from there you go to the [E] D minor.
You're going to play the D [D] string.
[Dm] [D] You're going to go to E.
Your first finger is going to play G.
[Dm] These two fingers play the last two strings.
Then you go back to the G.
[Bm] Then back to the [A] A7.
And here you're going to play A.
First finger is going to play G.
These two play the last two strings.
[Ab] And then back to the D minor all [Dm] together.
[G] So you [Ab] got the [A] A7.
[Dm] [A]
[Dm] And then once you get to that [Ab] part, you're going to go through.
[D] [Dm]
And [D] that puts us up into the walk-up.
You're going to go on the E string.
[Eb] [E] [D] You're going to go [Eb] open, [E] E2.
[N] So the F chord.
And you're not really playing the last string, so you're just going to go D.
[F]
[A] [F] [Dm]
[Gbm]
Fingers, thumb, fingers, thumb.
So that whole walk-up part, [B] you're going to [F] go.
[Gb]
[E] So I'm going to go through it slow from the beginning to make sure we're all on the same page here.
You got C.
[C] [Em]
A7.
[A]
[Dm] [A] [Dm]
[E] [F]
[Gb] [D] Alright, now that puts us at a C.
So you got C, [Ab] where you can see the other.
[Bb] All these four strings are [C] in the middle.
And then you [Ab] have a little walk-down where you [B] go to the second fret of [Bb] the A.
To the third fret of the A.
[A] So you're open A.
[C]
[G] [Bb] [A] Then after that you play the A7, the last three strings again, twice.
[C]
[G] [Gm] [A] From there, [Ab] you're going to play D7. Then [D] D.
G with the first finger, and then the last G.
Then fingers, fingers, thumb.
[G] [Ab] Then this last three strings and it's done [G] all together.
And then thumb, fingers.
Fingers.
Okay, [Ab] so ready [A] to follow along [N] from the top?
Let's try it.
One, two, [Abm] three, four.
[C] [E] [A]
[Dm]
[A] [Dm] [Ab]
Then you got the [D] walk-back.
[Eb] [F] [D]
[C] [G] [Bb] [A]
[D]
[G] So, that is the [Ab] finger-picking part that nobody knows you when you're down and out.
