[E] Hey, what's up?
Marty here with GuitarJams.com.
I've got an 80s classic for you that I'm going to teach you right now.
One bar chord needed, but it's still, this would be a great lesson to transition you
into getting more comfortable with bar chords.
Quick shout out to Tim Gilberg.
This is like his master genre, so I just want to give a quick shout out to that guy.
And that's it.
I'm going to show you how to do it.
[B] At first I was going to just do the Riff-O-Matic series with just that opening riff, but the
rest of the song, if you can play that riff, you can play the rest of the song.
So I'm going to try and teach you the whole thing.
Now I have other tips on bar chords, and I also have a free e-book.
And if you want to get that free e-book, you've got to sign up on my friend list and you'll receive it.
But so anyway, we're going to play a B minor bar chord.
It's a good first bar chord to play.
[N] We take our index finger and we bar it across the second fret.
And think about this, on your index finger, this part, the pads of your finger are kind
of soft, right?
But then on the side of your finger, like for instance, it's a lot firmer right here.
So that's the part that you want to press down on.
Not the flat part, which I've seen people do, but more like that.
Right?
And so then we just play what looks like an A minor shape.
So it's called B minor because it's an A minor chord up a whole step to B minor.
That's C minor, that's D minor, that's E minor, F minor, G minor.
It goes all the way up.
Kind of like a capo.
So we're going to play that B minor.
And a great way to see if you're playing the B minor chord correctly [Em] is actually the opening
riff of this tune.
So it's kind of cool because what we're going to do with our right hand, we're going to
form the B minor and then we're going to play [Bm] this.
The one, two, three, four, three, two, one strings.
So the high, you know, it just goes.
Then back to the B string.
So this is fun.
I screwed up.
Sorry.
Just like that.
[E] Then you have to play an E major chord.
It's a good beginner chord.
You're going to strum it.
It's a little growl on your face.
You don't necessarily have to do the Billy Idol lip, but the E, [D] then a D.
Another beginner chord.
[Am] That's it, right?
And then you're [Bm] going to go back to that B minor riff.
Then a [Em] D chord instead of an E chord.
[D] They reverse.
D, [E] B.
And we go back to the B minor.
We're going to go chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, [Em] chug.
We're going to try and [Bm] get those strings to vibrate under your right palm a little bit.
It sounds like this.
[G#] Okay?
And that's a cool little rhythm, you know?
It's all down [E] strums, but it's got that, you know, it's got that vibe, right?
So we're going to do this.
Here's the whole verse.
B [Bm] minor.
One and two and three and four and one and two and three and four and.
[N] To an A [A] major chord.
Then [E] an E major chord.
Just like that.
[B] It sounds like this.
B minor.
[A] [E] [Bm]
[A] [E] Okay, so it does that twice.
[Am] Alright, so it would sound like [Bm] this.
Bear with me.
Hey little sister, do, da, [A] da, da, [E] da.
[Bm] Hey little sister, do, do, [A] do, do, do.
[E] [Am] Now it's just B [Bm] minor.
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
[A] Then A.
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
[Bm] Then B minor again.
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
You know, hey little sister shotgun.
[E] It's a nice [D] day to [F#m] start again.
So it's [Em] E, [A] two, three, four, D, [Bm] two, three, four, B minor.
[E] Come on, it's a [D] E chord to the D [Bm] chord, B minor.
[B] [E] That's really it.
So [B] check it out.
Here's the whole verse.
[Bm] B minor, B minor, B [A] minor.
A.
[E] B.
[B] B minor, who's the [A] one you play?
[E] E.
[B] Now it's B minor [A] by itself.
Then you play A.
[B] Then you go B minor shotgun.
[E] It's a [D] E chord and a [A] D [Bm] chord, B minor.
[E] Come on, it's a [D] E chord and a D to [Bm] B minor.
[B] Come on.
And then what I always remember, it was kind of a loose arm and then the fist came up.
So if you have like, you know, Michael Jackson has the moonwalk.
You know, Billy Idol had the fist.
He was definitely famous for the fist and he had a little lip snarl.
[F#] He'd do that.
[E] He'd jump up and down.
But actually I got to say he was way cool.
He was way cool.
He still is cool.
He's the man, man.
So anyway, go ahead and sign up over there for that free e-book.
And hopefully you had a little fun with this nice little jam.
And keep the requests coming as well.
[Bm] And we'll see you real soon.
