[C] Alright, I'm [D] going to teach [Db] Imagine.
[B] You know, obviously an [Bb] amazing song [B] on piano.
[Bb] But I've arranged it for guitar.
I know there's a lot of other [Bbm] lessons on this tune,
but I'm just [A] going to kind of give my [Bb] rundown on it, explain it.
[Bbm] Basically, there's a verse, a chorus,
and I guess what you would call a bridge.
[Bb] Alright, the verse is a C chord,
[C]
and then it becomes what's called a C major 7.
And it's [Bb] actually really [B] easy, you just take your first finger [Em] off.
[B] And then an F chord,
[F]
and a little lick.
[A] [B]
[C]
[F]
[C]
[F]
[C]
Okay, so let's take a closer look at what's going on.
[Bb] Alright, here's what's going [Bm] on.
[E] I'm playing the C chord,
[Bb]
[A] and I'm [C] kind of emphasizing [Bbm] this bass note with my ring finger.
I kind of [B] hit that [C] first,
and then strum the [Cm] chord.
And
[C] then my first finger comes off.
Then I switch to an F chord.
And when I play an [Gbm] F, I know a lot of people [C] have problems covering both of these.
I actually don't really do that.
I just play these three,
and then I'm kind of [Gb] just letting my first finger touch that high E,
and it mutes it a little bit.
[C] So sometimes that's easier for people.
And then I'm hitting the bass note [F]
right there.
[C] Three of those into the lick.
[B] [F]
[E]
[C] Okay, here's [B] the lick.
Where my middle finger is on the F chord,
I hit that one [A] time.
And then [Bm] my ring finger goes up a [C] half step
[Bb]
from where [A] it was on the G string.
And you can hammer it.
Obviously it's on piano,
so fortunately [C] no haters are going to say,
[A] you're not doing it right because it's [C] on piano.
This is the
[Bb] [C] guitar translation.
[B] So I [Eb] think I usually hammer it.
[Bb]
Now [Db] you could actually go [C] up another half [B] step
because that's the next note.
[C]
[F]
[C] Like that.
But what I tend to do,
and then the open B string, which is the same note.
[B]
[C] And when you do that, you can [Eb] just take your hand off of that B string
and bring [B]
[C] it back to the C chord again.
So here's what the whole verse looks like.
[F] [Am]
[F] [C]
[Am] [F]
[C]
[Db] Now let's talk [C] about the chorus.
Beatles use this a lot, a little walk down.
So it's [Em] kind of like adding a bass [Bb] line within the chords.
[Cm] So I take the F chord,
[F]
and I keep [C] emphasizing the first note of the chord [F] like that.
We're going to [A] do that again.
But my [G] ring finger comes off,
my middle [Db] finger goes to the second fret on the [A] D string now.
So it actually [C] looks like an A minor 7,
but you could also call it [A]
[Abm] an F over [C] E.
Okay, so here's those two [F] again.
[C] Then I'm going to go to a D minor chord.
So my [Eb] middle finger is on [D] the second fret [C] of the G string.
And what I'm doing is I'm going to put my pinky,
[Db] this is going to be weird for some people,
[C] my pinky on the third fret of the B string,
and then my first [B] finger
[C] on the first fret of the high E string.
[A] And [C] my root note of that chord is this D string right [Dm] here.
And the reason I play it this way is my ring finger
[C] is going to [Bm] then go to the third fret [F] on the A string within [C] that chord.
So here's what we have so [F] far.
[C]
[Dm] [F]
And so I just kind of emphasize that [Bb] note and then strum the chord.
[Dm] And then it goes to a G chord or a [B] G7.
So if you're [Bm] playing as a G7,
you're going to [C] use your ring finger [A] on the third fret of the low E,
middle [Am] finger right here, and pinky right [G] there.
And then you can just like that.
Okay, here's that whole chorus in real [F] time.
[C]
[Dm]
[G]
All right, [Db] so that's [Cm] that.
That is the verse and the chorus.
All right, now all we need is [C] the bridge.
And the bridge I just strum out.
[Bb]
[A] You know, I just [C] strum [Eb] the chords out.
All [B] right, and it's not too bad.
[G] It's, let's see if I remember here.
[F]
It's F, [G] G, [C] C, and then [E] E.
And you could also play E7.
[A] I'm going to leave that up to you.
[Bb] Here it is again.
