Hi, Mick here for Guitarist with a look at two new Yamaha SLG 200 series guitars.
Now [A] SLG stands for silent guitar, [G]
N [Bm] means nylon string and S, which is that one, means [A] steel string.
[G] They're both new [F#m] for [Bm] 2015.
[A] What's [G] interesting about the silent guitar?
[Bm] Well, there's not much of it.
[G] And it's not very [A] loud when [Bm] played acoustically.
[G] Why would you want that?
Well, [Bm]
as [G] you'll see, it's very quick to assemble and disassemble.
[Bm] And it's a great design that you can carry around if you're [G] travelling a lot, on holiday, away on business,
[Bm] or if you just want a very, very, very lightweight [G] guitar.
The basic construction, as you can see here, [Bm] solid neck, [G] solid centre section, preamp housing here,
and these shaped [Bm] bouts that bolt on.
This one's [G] on permanently, [Bm] this one comes on and off.
In this [G] guitar are Yamaha's [A] SRT [Bm] electronics.
Now Yamaha's very careful not [G] to say digital modelling,
[A] but [Bm]
[A] what you're [G] essentially getting is [A] [Bm] a sound image of a properly [A] [G] mic'd and recorded guitar
that you can [B] mix in [Bm] with the under-saddled piezo.
You can have the [G] under-saddled piezo pickup on its own,
[Bm] or you can have the digital image [G] sound on its own, or you can blend them together.
In addition to that, you've got bass and treble controls,
[C] and some on [G]-board effects there, which we'll demonstrate in a second.
[Bm] Really cool, in addition to an on [A]-board [G] tuner, you've also got an auxiliary [A] input,
[Bm] so if you're travelling and [A] you're taking your [G] MP3 player with you,
[Bm] you can plug your MP3 player in the [G] bottom, [A] you can [Bm] plug your headphones in [A] the top,
and jam [Bm] along to whatever you're hearing in [G] your ears.
In fact, with the size of MP3 players these days, you can probably [Bm] just take your MP3 player on the bottom there.
So, [D] it's very [G] handy, easy to carry about, [Bm] as I say, it comes in nylon and steel string versions.
So, without further ado, let's see what they sound like.
