[D] For me, I've always wanted, I've always had deep questions [A] and I've always really wanted
to know true love.
[D] I wanted to know God.
I mean, what they told me about God [N] didn't make any sense to me growing up.
I wanted to have a real connection.
And so, without even really thinking about it, music was where I went to yearn or pray or long.
A lot of songs came from just playing and feeling that yearning in my being for connection.
Music was really where I found myself [Gm] or I found a [Cm] piece of myself.
And it was where I went to express what was going on inside in a safe place.
[Ab] [Gm] [Bb]
[Ab] [F]
[Cm] [Ab] [Gm]
[Bb] Logical Song [Ab] is very [F] autobiographical because they [Cm] did send me away.
They sent me [Ab] away to teach me [Gm] how to be sensible.
[Bb] [Ab]
[F] [Cm]
[Ab] [Gm] [Bb] It
[Ab] [F]
[Eb] was a good school.
It was one of the best in England.
And yet, I was really more unsure of [Ab] who I was [Db] [Fm] and definitely not [Bb] prepared [Ab] for [Eb] being an adult.
I [Cm]
[Db] [Fm] think [Bbm] [Db]
[Fm] [Bb] [Ab] there's a lot, it's [Cm] what's missing at school.
That is, [G] for me, the loudest thing.
[Bb] Because we are taught to function [Ab] outwardly, [Am] but we're not taught who we [Cm] are inwardly and
what really [Ab] the true purpose of life is.
[Gm] There's very little discussion [Bb] even in school.
And [Ab] I think, for me, [A] the natural [Cm] uniqueness and the natural awe and wonder and [Bb] thirst
and enthusiasm and joy of life that young [Ab] children have [F] get lost.
[Cm] It gets beaten out of them in a way.
[Ab] [Gm]
[Bb] [Ab]
[F]
[Eb]
[Cm] At age 12, when [Ab] my parents divorced, that was a big [Db]
moment for me because two [Bbm] things happened.
My dad left and I didn't see him for about 15 years, but also he left me his guitar.
And I have a feeling, I don't know.
I think he knew I wanted to touch it and he never used to let me touch it.
I used to watch him playing these songs.
But he left me his guitar and that changed [N] my life because then that guitar was mine
and I took that guitar to boarding school and that became my best friend and where I
went at every spare moment to learn.
And immediately I actually started writing songs.
Funny, I feel like all these songs are like my babies, my children.
You know, like Breakfast in [Cm] America?
Are you [Gm] looking for us?
[Ab] She's the only [D] one I got.
Me, [Bb] my little pie.
[Gm]
Initial.
[A] Know that there's a reason why I [E] need to [C] be alone.
Take the moon.
[Cm] All [D] of my life, I felt that you [Cm] were listening.
Mamma G, won't [D] you [Eb] come to me?
[F] Oh no, [Bb] it's [Eb] raining [F] again.
[E] [Dm]
[Eb] If everyone was [Fm] listening, [Eb] you know.
Won't you think of falling?
[N]
[D] You know, the goal of musicians, and we were no exception, was to make it.
To make it big.
And we made it big.
And it didn't bring the fulfillment or the satisfaction or the joy that I was hoping.
It was [E] like [G] my compass, if you like, [D] has always been a spiritual one.
And I'd lost that.
And I realized I need to get that [G] back.
[D] And starting again with my own [G] name was not an automatic
It wasn't even what I [Bm] wanted.
[D] But I learned a lot about myself.
So now I'm [G] coming back as a [D] much more whole being, [G] whole man.
And I have much more to give.
Even in [D] the quietest moments, I wish I [G] knew [D] what I had to [G] do.
And even [D] though the sun is shining, I can feel the [G] rain.
[D] Here it comes [G] again.
[Gm]
[C] And even [G] when you [D] showed me, [C] my [G] heart was out of [D] tune.
[Dm] But there's a shadow of doubt that's [A] not letting me [G] find you too soon.
[D] Nothing.
[E] [B] [N]
