[Bm] [Am] [D] [Am]
[D] [Am] [D] [C]
[G] We're in Light [Am] My Fire, [Bm] we've got the song all together, and I said,
we have to have an introduction, we can't [Em] just start [G] vamping on A minor to F sharp minor,
we've got [Am] to do something.
So I said, listen, everybody just, you know, go [Bm] [Am] out the door,
go walk [Bm] to the ocean, oh, [C] 30, [G] 40 yards [Am] away, just [Bm] sand.
And so I [Am] watched John and Robbie [Em] and Jim [D] go [Am] off, and I [Bm] started tinkering [Am] with it.
[Bm] And then all [Am] of those [Bm] classical [Am] lessons came out.
[Bm] It was like, [Am] you know, [Bm] the conscious [C] mind opened up, [Bm] and out of [Am] it came [Bm] these,
all [Am] these lessons in my subconscious.
It was very, [G] very Freudian.
[Am] And my hands just [D] started to go [Am] [Bm] [Am] from
[G] [A] And all [Em] of a sudden it was a circle [Am] of fifths.
[Bm] And I put a little Bach filigree over the top of it.
[C] [G] [A] [C] [Bb]
[G] I got [Am] it, I've got it.
So I went [Bm] to the door and said, hey, I got [G] it, come on back,
you guys, they didn't even get to [Bm] the ocean.
It happened like, you [A] know, in [Bm] five minutes.
It was one of those [B] miraculous things that happened to you, that all, you know,
that 20 years of piano [G] lessons [D] went
[F] [Bb] [Eb] [Ab]
[A]
[G] At first Jim was [Am] writing the songs, you know, [G] because he [Am] was [G] the [Am] [Bm] one that was,
he had [Em] a bunch of songs already before the band was even [D] a band.
[Eb] [D] But then we had to play like two or three sets a night [G] sometimes, and [Am] we didn't have [Bm] enough songs.
So [Am] Jim says, [Em] well, why don't [D] you guys write some [G] songs, you know?
[Dm] I don't want to be the only [Am] one writing.
[D] [Bm] And so I said, okay, [Am] I'll [B] go [C] home and I'll [G] write one.
[D] [F] [Bb]
[Ab] [A]
So I [E] figured, [A] okay, to write a song for the Doors, it's got to be as good as Jim's songs, right?
So I said, okay, what should I do?
I'll write about the four elements,
earth, air, fire and water, because that's pretty heavy duty, you know?
So I picked fire because I always liked the song Play With [Em] Fire by The Stones.
[G] So don't play with me, [C] cause you're playing with [Em] fire.
Then I decided, you know, [Fm] okay, I'm going to put as many chords as I can,
every chord I know is going to go into this song.
And you know, I just counted them up the other day, there's like 14 [Eb] chords in Light My Fire.
[Ab] You know, [A] Light My Fire sounds like a pretty simple song, but it's really not.
[Am] You know that it would be [Gbm] untrue
[Am] You know that I would be [Gbm] a liar
[Am] If I was to [Gbm] say to you
[Am] Yeah, we couldn't get [Gbm] much higher
[G] Come [A] on baby, light [D] my fire
[G] Come on baby, [A] light [D] my [B] fire
[G] I'd sit [D] the night [E] on fire
It was a great combination of influences that we brought together to be the Doors, you know?
Dan's more put the whole Latin beat to it, you know that it would be untrue.
Then he goes into come on baby, light my hard rock force.
So it's a perfect example of John Densmore's jazz drumming, and then his rock and roll marching band,
and Jim Morrison put the second verse on.
Time to hesitate us through, time to wallow in the mire,
Try [Gbm] now we can only lose, and our [A] love [Em] becomes a funeral pyre.
[Gbm] [Am] And our love become a funeral [Gbm] pyre
[G] Come on [A] baby, light my [D] fire
[G] Come on [A] baby, light [D] my fire
[B] [G] Try to sit the [D] night [E] on fire
[Am] Jim, [Bm] you can't say funeral pyre.
Man, this is going to be a hit.
This is a really good song.
Rami's got a brilliant song here.
Jim said, don't worry about it, Ray.
They'll never know what the hell the words even are.
You know, they'll know come on baby, light my fire.
But as far as funeral pyre, I guarantee you no one will [A] bust us on that.
[D] And you know what, he was [Am] absolutely right.
[Bm] [Am]
[B] [D] [Am] [G]

[Am] [D] [G]
[D] That's [G] what happens with the [D] best groups.
[F]
It's [Bb] not just [Eb] one guy, it's like 3 or 4 [A] or 5 people that come together
and they make something bigger [Am] than what they are.
It won't be [Gbm] untrue, [Am] know that I would be [Gbm] unalive
[Am] If I weren't to say [Gbm] to you, [Am] love couldn't get [Gbm] much higher
[G] Come on baby, [A] light my [D] fire
[F] Try to [G] sit the night [D] on fire
