Graham Gouldman - Dreadlock Holiday (10CC) | Het verhaal achter het nummer | Top 2000 a gogo chords
Start Jamming...
Eric [Gm] and I wrote Dreadlock Holiday after we'd [Cm] both come back from our separate holidays.
[Gb] Eric had been in [A] Barbados and [Ab] I'd been in Jamaica.
[Bb] [C] And we were talking about our experiences.
[Gm] I was walking down [Bb] the street
[Cm] I mean, the song originally [F] was about, it was [Gm] supposed to be about someone trying to emulate
kind of [Dm] West [Gm] Indian cool, you know, trying to be like them [G] but failing [Dm] miserably.
[F] I was staying at this really nice hotel and got friendly with one of the guys that worked there.
And we were talking about sports [Gm] and I said, you know, do you like cricket?
He said, no, I don't like it.
I said, what do you mean you don't like it?
I was surprised, you know.
[Cm] He said, I don't like it, I [Dm] love it.
[Gm] And I thought, oh, that's [Cm] a good line.
I say I don't [Gm] like cricket.
[F] I [Eb] love [Cm] it.
[Eb] I used to listen to ska, like some people like Desmond Decker I loved.
So it was always [Cm] in our [Eb] minds, that kind of music.
[Bb] And remember 10CC was a band that did all sorts of music,
[D] country and western, country and eastern, [C] you know, reggae, [Gm] rock, heavy metal.
[C] You know, we did whatever [Gm] suited the song that we'd written.
[Cm]
[Gm]
Some of it's fact, some of it's fiction.
[D] [Gm]
And the verse about, [C]
[D] he looked down at my [Ab] silver chain and said, I'll give you one [Eb] dollar.
It was [Fm] a present from my mother.
Well, it wasn't a present from my [F] mother, it didn't even happen to me,
but Eric was on holiday with Justin Haywood.
And they [Ab] felt a bit uncomfortable with the people that they were with.
And one guy [Bb] said to them, [A] sarcastically, I'll give you a dollar for that [G]
chain.
You know, the chain was obviously [Gm] worth a lot of money.
And [Cm] that found its way into the song [Dm] as well.
[Gm]
[Cm] [Eb] I started [B] in the [G] music business as a songwriter in 1965.
I had this chord [Em] sequence.
[E]
[Gm] Oh, [Dm] your love, [F]
[G] [Dm] oh, your love, [F] I give you Eric.
[G] [Gm]
[D] I wrote [A] a song called Look Through Any [B] Window that we gave [A] to a publisher.
And he placed that with [B] the Hollies.
And that was a fantastic record, I loved that.
[A] So they said to me, have you got any more songs?
I said, yes, I have, I've got this song called Bus Stop.
And I played it, I remember playing it to Graham Nash in the toilet there
because there was no other room that was [C] quiet.
[E]
[Em]
[Bm] [Em] [Bm]
[Em] Bus stop, wed day, she's there, I say, please share my umbrella.
Bus stops, bus [Am] goes, she stays, love grows under my umbrella.
[G] [C] All [G] that summer we [Am] enjoyed it, [Dm] wind and rain [Em] and shine.
[Am] That umbrella we employed it, by August [Em] she was mine.
Hermes Hermits, that was a different story
because my [Bb] manager Harvey managed Hermes Hermits.
[A]
And I'd written [Am] No Milk Today.
I [F] played it to Harvey, he said that would be [G] perfect for [Am] [Em] Hermes Hermits.
[Am] No milk today, [C] my love has gone away.
[E] The bottle [A] stands for [E] a symbol [Am] of the door.
No milk today, [C] you seem to come in sight.
But people [Am] passing by [E] don't know [A] the reason why.
I've heard they [G] know a palace they have been [D] behind the door
[Em] where my love brings [A] us green, [Am] no [G] milk [F] today.
NCC in a way was unlike any other [Gm] band.
We had 4 songwriters, 4 producers, 4 singers, 4 instrumentalists.
It was difficult, I think, for people to identify us,
particularly because there were different vocalists
and also [F] because we used to [Gm] approach every song
as if it was a separate band in a way.
[Cm] [Gm] I don't like crickets, [Eb] no, no, [Cm] I love it.
[A] [E]
