Well, I founded a music store in San Francisco, early 90s, and it first made its appearance,
I think, on our record with the blue line called Mystic Mile.
And it's my blues guitar, really.
I mean, it really is.
That's where it shines for me.
I grew up playing Gibson-style guitars, basically.
My first good electric six-string guitar was a Guild Starfire III.
And from there, I went to playing an L5, and a Super 400, and a 335.
So all Gibson, you know, humbucking pickups.
And of course, they all have the same string spacing, and other than the Les Paul, they
have the same tension from here to here.
So the Tele's got a wider string spacing, it's got more tension on the neck, a longer
What's the phrase?
Scale length.
Scale length, that's it.
And so there's a little bit more resistance when you play it, and that for me is kind
of good in a blues context, to have a little bit of resistance, a little bit of fight,
you know?
Because it forces you to dig in a little bit more, and kind of ask a little bit more of yourself.
I think it's an important thing for players, especially if you're interested in blues playing,
you know, you don't want to have too light of action.
You don't want it to be too easy.
It needs to be a little fight.
I mean, I'm using tens, so it's not like heavy, you know, gauge string, really.
But nines, you know, with low action, this is not good, you know?
You need a little higher action, I feel.
So yeah, it's my blues instrument.
It's got that great rhythm pickup sound, that great treble pickup sound.
This is a very powerful, by Tele standards, treble pickup, so that was a real gift, you
know, when I bought this guitar, that was a lucky thing, you know?
And middle position as well, so you've got three positions of great [F#m] sounds.
