Chords for Needle and the Damage Done Lesson - Neil Young

[D] _ _ _ It's a little bit different I think than the ones he was doing, you know when it was a new [Bm] song _ [C] but
_ [B] basically the same and
[Ab] It's in standard [B] tuning in the the it goes like this
The intro basically [G] is the [Bm] same as the verses [A] and everything else.
It's the same thing [Ab] repeated over and over
_ _ [B] with just a couple of little minor changes, but it goes [D] like this _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ _ _
[F] _ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[D] _ and that's that's the intro part and _
_ _ [Eb] It does that a bunch of times over so it starts on D, right?

and then you just take your
_ _ _ Middle finger [B] off the high E string
[D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ So in [Gb] some of the versions that you see him do he [D] keeps doing that

_ On that high E [B] string from the second fret and then [C] off he'll do that through say the first three [D] chords like that _ _ _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _ _ _ _
But I think in this [Bm] one.
He just does it the first [D] time _ _ and then the rest are like [G] this _ _
_ _ _ _ _ So that for after that first D

[G] This is just it's a C kind of a C
_ _ Keep the B string at the third and then [Cm] go a string [D] at the third _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

_ Same chord except now the A string walks down to second and on the next chord
They walk down to the first so [Db] if you're not used to doing that stretch [D] that one might take a little work for a beginner
But [Ebm] it's just really not that hard

_ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _ right just those two strings [C] and then _ _ _ _

So that next [C] part it's on it's a C _ _ _ _ _ _
So you want when you're doing that [Cm] C you hammer on?

[D] You hammer on the D string of the second fret and then the G string [Db] of the second fret but you hit a [C] B
So you kind of go

[B] down the picking
_ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [F] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ That's just [Bb] an F
_ _ Suspend the G string _ _ at the third and then back up _ _
_ [G] _ _ So it's still an F, but on that G [Bb] string you go
_ [G] _ three two _ [Bb] open with an F _ _ _ _
[F] _ _ _ _ _ [Bm] _ _
This is an E
But suspend it out.
So all [C] three
_ [B] A D and G strings at the second fret
_ _ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ back to an E _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
So then we have to climb back up and start again you're after you're _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ So that's the G string goes back up
[A] to second [B] fret and then open B string

_ So he's into the vocal the verse part _

He [C] doesn't do that
_ _ _ [Db] Doesn't do that [B] part when he's actually singing [C] the vocal
He does a C but on this version [Db] on the unplugged one.
He covers [Bm] that high E at the third [C] fret

[F] _ _ _ So, [A] _ let's [C] see [Eb] just like you had in the intro to [C] F right except he keeps that high E covered at the third fret so it goes

That's just an F with the high E covered at the third

_ And if you watch a video of Neil playing acoustic
_ _ He's got he's really using his [C] whole it's not if I were strumming this I would [D] show him more with my wrist and my elbow
[Eb] But Neil's not [Cm] like that and [B] that's part of how he [G] gets the _ _

_ _ He was his whole elbow for the stones
So if [Db] you want it really play like he does you got to get his his strum down
But I kind of play [D] it like I would
