[F] [Eb] Hey everyone, welcome [Cm] back.
This is [Dm] HD [Eb] piano and I'm Phil.
Today I'm going to be [Cm] showing you guys
[F] how to play [Eb] Say Something by A Great Big World featuring [Cm] Christina [Bm] Aguilera.
And in this video,
we're looking at the intro and the chorus.
That's the same section.
And that section
sounds a little something like this.
[G]
[D]
[A] [D] [Bm]
[G]
[D]
[A] [D] And that's going to repeat for a little bit,
but that's the whole section right there.
So let's start with the right hand.
Our pinky is
going to hang out nice and comfortably on D, just above middle C.
We've got a nice slow tempo here,
so one, two, three, four, just like that.
[Gb] And that's exactly what we're going to do.
The first
four notes are only D.
The first four counts.
Then we're going to add an F sharp with our thumb for
two counts.
So we'll go, well, actually just for one.
We're going to go one, then back to D.
[D] Then
we're going to do A, C sharp, D all together, and then a final D by itself at the end.
Okay,
so basically think about this section as having eight counts.
The first four are all D.
So we'll
go one, two, three, four.
Now add an F sharp, five, back to D, six, and then all three of these notes,
seven, back to D for eight.
That's it.
And then now it all repeats.
So let's try it all together
without my help.
You guys ready?
Alright.
One, two, three.
Let's repeat.
Ready?
Excellent work.
[B] Now every time we do this chorus, we're going to do that progression four times through.
Just there,
we did it twice, so we were halfway done, but it's the same repeat every time.
Alright, let's
talk left hand.
We're going to take the right hand out for a bit.
We'll bring it back though.
We're going to start with a B and an F sharp.
We're going to change chords every two counts in
the left hand, but we're not going to play each count.
We're just going to hold them.
So this
chord, B and F sharp, get two counts.
One, two, then we move to G and [G] D.
It's [D] G with the pinky,
D with [G] the thumb.
And that's another two counts.
Ready?
One, two, good.
[D] Then we're opening up,
keeping our thumb on D, but pinky goes down to the octave below to a D.
So D, A, and D.
We're
going to play all those at the same time for two counts.
One, two, and our final two counts,
we're going to move up to A and E.
[A] One, two.
Okay, let's review.
So B and F sharp to start.
[B]
One,
two.
Then G and [G] D.
One, two.
Open up to D [D] octaves.
One, [A] two.
And then up to A and E.
One,
two.
One more [B] time.
[G]
[D]
[A] That's it.
All right, so [Bm] let's put the hands together.
See how that works.
You
ready?
Two, [G]
four, [D]
[A] [Dm] repeat.
[Bm]
Right hand's just playing Ds for the first four [G] counts.
Now here's where we
drop to [D] the F sharp.
And then our [A] cluster up top.
That's [D] it.
Two more times.
[Bm] [G]
[D]
[A] [D] Last time.
[Bm] Here
we go.
[G]
[D]
[A] [Dm] That's it.
Now remember, that's the [Eb] intro and the chorus that comes later on.
Now we've
already learned the verse.
Now you've got the beginning intro and the middle choruses.
All we
need to do now is put the whole song together by gluing these parts together.
That's what we're
going to cover in the next video.
So we're almost there, you guys.
You're doing a great job on Say
Something.
Keep it up.
