Hi, I'm Stevie T and a very common question I'm asked is how are you?
Another very common question I'm asked is how do you play guitar fast?
You know, what is the road to being able to play guitar fast?
Now the road to being able to play guitar fast is exactly the opposite of playing guitar fast
You got to learn how to play things slow before you can play them fast.
Gotta be able to walk before you can run
It's all about starting off slow and progressively building speed up over time
Now if you wanted to cheat you could put the sound effects of a shredding guitar in the background and just do this
Or you could record a guitar solo one note at a time and then just space them very very close together
And then when you play it, it sounds super fast
Now we pull all the notes together.
Oh
This is gonna be shred tastic
[F] I am the fastest [E] guitar player in the whole world
[G] And then when it comes time to do your music video
[Em] Just play the solo super slow and then just speed up the video when it's done
[E] [D]
[E] [Bm]
[C] [N] Now for those of you who genuinely want to learn how to play guitar fast and are willing to put the time and effort
I'll give you the tips to do so now the number one tip
I can give you to learning to play guitar fast is by practicing to a metronome
I can't count how many times I've said this and remember keep the metronome slow to begin with
So you can focus on all your movements and once you're able to play it slow
Build up your metronome speed slowly over time and before you know it you'll be shredding at like 5,000 beats per minute
Now when I first started guitar more than anything I wanted to learn the solo to master of puppets by Metallica
So I'm gonna use that solo as an example now when I first started guitar
Obviously that solo was way too fast for me, but I'm gonna show you the road
I took to being able to play the solo
Okay, so I'm gonna use the first part of the solo as an example at full speed it is 220 beats per minute
[A] So I'm just gonna show you that quick
[Am]
[B] [N] Now obviously that's way too fast if you're first starting out
So put the metronome at say 100 beats per minute this way you can focus on every note and figure out your technique
[Am] And [C]
once you're comfortable playing it at that speed move the metronome up a little bit faster
[N] And then once you're comfortable playing it that fast move up the metronome a little bit faster a little bit faster
And before you know it you'll be playing the solo up to speed
I mean pretty soon you'll be playing the solo faster than Metallica plays it
[C]
[N] But the best advice I can give you is practice practice practice and to a metronome
It's all about persistence.
Do not give up well until next time bye treads
