[Bb] What's up guys?
Groovy Guitar Dude here to [G] teach you a beginner lesson on Free
[Bb] Fallin' by Tom Petty [A] on guitar.
[B] Guys, before we get into this lesson I just
wanted to take a moment [C] to remember Tom Petty and all the amazing things that he
did for music.
I also wanted to take a second just to recognize and show
[G] condolences for the people involved in the Las Vegas shooting.
There's a lot of
people that passed in that.
There's a lot of people [B] that are injured that need
help and a lot of families going through a lot out there right now.
So if
you guys hadn't heard yet Casey Neistat is doing a [Am] GoFundMe for the families of
the [G] victims and just people just kind of anybody who's out there and needs help
right now he's doing a GoFundMe for them.
So I'm gonna link that below if you're
able to pitch [C] in a little bit do it [B] it's an excellent you know Casey Neistat's
real good about making [Bm] sure that that money goes to a good good cause.
Just do
what you can for those people [C] do whatever you can to help those people
out because they're going through a lot right now.
Anyways here's a lesson.
[Gm] Guys
the first thing that you want to know for [Bb] a free falling is that we need a
capo on third [G] frets.
The next thing you want to know is the three chords that
we're gonna use [Bb] for this song.
The first one is D, [F] [Bb] the next one is G, and the last
one is A.
[C]
And I'm gonna have chord charts in the comments below for all of those
as well as a run-through [B] of this whole entire song [Ab] on [A] thegroovyguitardude [C].com
Alright guys the groovy thing about this song is that it really just plays the
same thing the whole way through.
The only thing we're gonna change up is the
strumming pattern we're doing over here.
So the first and most obvious strum
pattern we're [Ab] gonna use for this song it starts out in the beginning and kind of
goes in and out throughout the rest of the song is just single down [G] strums for
each chord.
So our chord [Ab] progression for the whole song is gonna [F] go D, [Bb] G, G, D, [C] A.
And
what's most important about this is the timing so that [F] first D it's gonna ring
out a little bit [Bb] second G is gonna ring out a little bit [G] and then third so
there's that G right there again that G is gonna be fast this D is gonna be fast
and then [Am] A is gonna ring out a little bit.
So whenever you put it all together
with that single down strum pattern it's gonna look about like this.
[Bb]
[C]
[F] [Bb]
[F] [C]
Now from
there we're gonna go into our next strumming pattern and that is the one
that plays through most of the song.
Once [Bbm] you get out of that single down strum
pattern [A] we're just gonna go into this and it's gonna continue through most of
the rest of the song.
So what that's gonna be [Dm] same chord progression same
order everything so we're gonna go first is [A] gonna be D we're gonna do down [F] down
up and we're gonna go to G we're gonna down down [Bb] up down [A] and then we're gonna
do [Bb]
down on G down on D and [C] then A is gonna be down up down down.
So I know
that's a little confusing a little bit tricky but just rewind it watch it again
if you need to it's not too [Eb] terribly complicated and confusing it's just kind
of a little bit to [G] remember so it kind of flows naturally with the [Eb] song so if
you're familiar with the [Db] song it should come pretty easily.
So when you put all
that together it should look something like this.
[F] [Bb]
[C]
[Bb] [C]
[Db] And guys the very last piece
of the song that we need to know is the bridge and [B] the bridge is actually same
thing yet again [Bm] it's just gonna be that same chord progression but we're just
gonna switch our strum pattern up and what we're gonna [C] do is we're gonna [Gm] have
our we're just gonna do single down strums it's kind of palm muted okay [Db] so
if you don't know what palm [G] muting is palm muting just rest your [B] the palm of
your hand a little bit softly on the strings back here close to the bridge
and you're gonna strum just like [Gm] you usually would it just gives it [Bm] a little
bit more of a muted sound and also gives it a little bit more of a
percussive sound so we're gonna start with [Bb] our D our D chord is gonna be [G] three
down strums [C] so and we're gonna go G five down strums [Bb] and then we're gonna go G
single down strum [C] D single down [B] strum A five down strums like I said just [D] palm
muted a little [C] bit again rewind that if you missed it if you need to [Ab] I'll also
have it in the [G] comments below for those of you who need it as well as on my
website but [Bb] that is the gist of it it's just gonna be [G] those those [Bb] down strums
[A] just like that palm [Ab] muted pretty chill [B] so [Bb] here's what that'll sound like [F] [Bb]
[C]
[F] [Bb]
[C]
[F] and
guys [Em] that's everything that you need to know [Eb] to play free falling on [B] guitar by
Tom Petty as always if you guys have any [Gm] questions you can hit me up in the
comments below I'm [Bb] usually pretty quick getting back to those and if this video

a week so if you're [Bb] learning guitar ukulele is the perfect channel for you
to check out like I said guys I'll have channel [C] notes a little bit down below
just kind of [Bb] on some of those chords strum [B] patterns stuff like that but I'll
[F] also will have a detailed rundown on my website for those of you [C] who prefer a
written [Am] version that you can even [F] print off if you want to [D] guys [Db] last time just
pay respect to Tom [C] Petty today he's an incredible [Bb]
musician such an awesome dude
I feel honored to be able to play and [A] teach his songs all the [B] time and also
guys as far as [C] the Las Vegas victims [Bb] like I said do whatever you [C] can to help
those people if you know somebody personally that was involved in that you
know just give them a [Bb] little bit extra love or if you're able to [C] support the
[D] GoFundMe that Casey Neistat or many other youtubers and [Bb] other people around
the world are doing to kind of help these [G] families that were [Gm] affected by
this just do whatever you can to help [F] because it's just you know one of the
[G] worst tragedies in American or in general history [Db] guys I hope you have a
wonderful day and have a blast playing this song and I'll see y'all very [Bb] soon
