This is the guitar tutorial for Tom Petty's Free Falling the easy way and the correct [C] way
All right, [N] have your capo third fret on there just like that
[F] The chords you got to know are D
[Bb] G
and A
[C] That's it [F] right there
[Bb]
[C] Not [B] bad, huh?
That's the chord progression D [Bb] G G
[C] Okay, [F] so
[Bb] [C] The only thing that changes a [Gb] little bit is the strumming pattern the song starts off in the intro and into the first [F] verse like this
[Bb] [C] All it is is down [B] strokes.
All right, then when the song picks up it goes [F] like
[Bb]
[C] [Bb]
[C] I'll slow that [Abm] down for you right now and that's continued throughout the rest of the [F] song
[Bb]
[F] [C]
[F] [Bb]
[C] That's it.
[D] When the song [G] picks up into the chorus, you can speed that up a little bit not speed it up
But actually add some more strums.
So what I do is [F] I go
[Bb]
[C] [F] [Bb]
[F] [C] slow [F] down
[Bb] [F] [C]
[F] [Bb]
[C] [B] So I just add some more down strums and up strums in there, okay, the only part where the song [Ab] changes is
when at the end they say free fall [B] and free fall and you know the part that [F] goes and
[Bb]
[F] [C] [F]
[Bb] [G] There's no capo on your [Bb] guitar when you play that
Kind of makes it difficult if you [Bm] only use one guitar [Abm] to play this song and you only have one person
But what I would do in that case
The chords are the same.
I would go to
[F] [G] This guy right here, which is a power chord with my capo on the third fret that's in the one two, three four
Starts on the fifth fret pointer fingers on the a string your ring fingers on the D string
Seventh fret and your pinky is right [B] behind that on the G string seventh fret as [F] well.
So you've got
[Bb] And then you slide all the way up to
Which is on [A] the one two, three, four, five [B] six seven eight nine tenth fret
And the twelfth fret so you [F] just slide the formation up to the tenth [Bb] fret and twelfth fret
[F]
Back down to the fifth fret the seventh fret
[B] [G] There it is
It's on [Em] the one two, three, four, five six, seven eight nine ten eleven twelfth fret from the capo and the fourteenth [C] fret from the capo
[Em] Okay, so you can do that.
It [E] sounds a little bit different, but it's the same
Chords so you can play along and really not miss a beat
Playing it like that.
