It was probably a couple years ago.
[B] I was just trying to figure [C#m] out, you know, how can I push [C#] myself to the next step?
And at [C#m] that point I was so [E] determined to get a result.
[C#] One day I just hit up this kid, his name was Lil Korn or something.
[D#] Do you know any other bigger rappers in the city or whatever?
He's like, yeah, Famous Dex, he's [C#m] my cousin.
I'm like, who's Famous Dex?
[F#m] He was kind of [C#m] small at the time, so I DM'd him, sent him beats.
[G#] That was when Rich linked up [G] with him too.
So they were in the studio and then I saw a snippet on Instagram [E] or Snapchat or something.
They were [C#] recording on my beat.
I'm like, yo, what?
I had never felt that kind of way.
I started hitting him up, sending him more beats, [G#m] and then he just started fucking me
more and more.
[C#] [C#m]
[C#] I'm from a very musical [F] family.
I've always been into rap since I was [A] a kid.
[F#] Being around Toronto, [C#m] I didn't realize all these producers were from my area.
I was like T-Minus and Murda, Wondergirl.
You know what I mean?
[G#] So it was just cool to see how [C#] you don't need to be from a certain place.
I kind of like to make one main melody that's just kind of intricate.
So I was in Omnisphere.
I was in the Lo-Fi Aurora pack.
There was this sound, it was called Vinyl Beltone.
It's like this spacey vibe for sure.
I drew in this melody here.
[G#] That's pretty much how I do all my [C#] melodies.
I just kind of draw them in.
[F#] It sounded a little fast, so I just threw the grow speed on it, [C#m] the half speed.
[A]
[F#m] [C#m] I basically just copied and pasted the same [Fm] melody into a new Omnisphere file.
It's like a Rhodes kind of sound.
And then I just took the two main melodies, I put it into an Edison clip.
Basically just reversed it.
[C#] [C#m] Put this grow speed [C#] effect on it.
This swoop effect.
I don't [E] know where I'd be without grow speed.
[N] So that's how I got the intro.
For this beat I chose a clap.
Something I like to do is I like to add another clap or another sound under it.
I put this little perk here on the second clap and the fourth clap.
So just like a subtle difference.
The hi-hats, I want to have that normal, to think it's going to sound like this, trap vibe.
But I just cut it off after three hits.
Second hi-hat under the third note.
Add a little chant in there.
Little sounds, differences.
[C#]
[A] [F#m] [C#]
[A] [F#] That one little sound I put in there, it sounds like a spaceship or something.
That definitely, I needed to put that in there.
The kick, I think I took two kicks I liked and combined them.
It's hard to hear, but there's actually this synth on top of the bass.
It's kind of like this eerie sound.
[C#] [E]
[C#] These are all the drums together.
[E]
[C#] [D#m] Everything just came together like that.
[C#m] [E]
[C#m] [G] When I made it, I had no idea it would [G#] be gold [E] in a month or almost platinum.
[A] I didn't see the [F#] potential in it, but when I heard him record it, I was like, what?
Really?
That beat?
I didn't even like that [C#m] beat that much.
[E] [C] I may not think this beat is that great, [C#m] but a lot of it has to do with how the artist uses it.
[F#]
[C#m] I'm working with artists I used to listen to.
It's just [G#m] crazy.
Now I'm creating the [C#m] song for them.
I'm creating the beat.
[D#] It's all so great to me, but at the same time, [C#m] I need more.
It's never enough for me.
[F#m] I need to keep working.
[C#m] [A]
[C#m] That tag is this girl.
Her name is Chelsea. The lapdog.
Chelsea voice tags.
She actually makes voice tags for a living.
