Hey, I'm M.
Shadows, and this is my first time.
[Gb] We were done playing Denver at the Red Rocks,
and I brought this up before,
and I actually talked to this girl after.
She said, that was the crazy experience,
but she told me that she named her daughter after me.
I was like, what's your daughter's name?
And I think it was like M-E-M,
and then it was Shadows was her middle name or something.
And there was a bunch of fans there,
and everyone's like, so you have a daughter,
and you named her after him.
And that was kind of interesting, you know?
Like, maybe a guy or a little boy or something,
but you know, there's an M.
Shadows out there.
That's a very young girl at this point,
which is kind of cool.
[D] [Bm] [B]
First time I was nominated for a Grammy
was, oh, about two weeks ago.
And I remember getting woken up by my kids,
because they run into our room every morning at like 5.30. and just jump on our bed. They're five and three. And I looked at my phone, which I think everyone does this day and age, and there was a bunch of text messages from people saying that we were nominated for a Grammy. And I was laughing about it earlier, because the Grammy Academy doesn't really reach out and tell you you're nominated. You kind of find out. [D] [F] First album I ever bought was Pearl Jam 10. And I don't think I really understood the magnitude of it until my older age. But at the time, I loved the hit singles and thought it was a great band. And now looking back on it, it's a pretty cool record [B] to be the first record that you bought, because it's a classic. [D] [G] [A] First band I was in is a punk band called Successful Failure. And we thought we were so [Bb] smart with our name, because we were gonna be a successful band, even though society thought we were failures. [E] And so we were a punk band, just a bunch of buddies. And we played hard and fast, and we were influenced by bad religion and no effects. And a lot of influences we took on to Avenged, but it was just strictly very fast Southern California punk rock. [Bm] [A] Probably [Bbm] driving around in the car and I heard it on K-Rock. I think K-Rock was playing, and then MTV at the time was playing it on TRL. And the first time you hear it in public with other people around, it's actually just a little embarrassing. I think you would think that you would be like, kind of like, yeah, this is us, but instead you kind of just cower until it's off, because it's just a little, I guess it's a little uncomfortable for me to hear us come on. Even to this day, if I'm in the car and our music comes on, it's just a little uncomfortable. You don't really wanna turn it up, cause that's pretty egotistical. And if you turn it off, that's a little dramatic. So you kind of just, you kind of sit there and just wait it out. [E] Hey everybody, I'm M. Shadows, and that was my first time. [D]
