Love this request.
Took me for [Db] a trip down
memory lane.
A song I forgot about.
Steelers Wheel.
Stuck in the middle with you.
Her request
of the adept guitarist.
Man what a great song.
You know what it reminds me of is when
John Lennon, after he left the Beatles, [Abm] he did that song, Christ you know it ain't easy.
You know how hard it can [B] be.
Well the way things are going, they're gonna crucify me.
I forget what that's called but that's what this reminds me of.
Good song dude.
Good request.
Thank you and here you go.
Couple guitar players in the band.
The part I'm showing you is a
12 string.
So I'm doing it on a 6 string.
So 12 string acoustic because I don't have
one so I can't show you it on a 12.
But it just sounds like two guitars.
You got two
strings stuck real close together for each one.
So you get a bigger sound.
You know highs
and lows and all that.
So I'm gonna show the intro in this.
Start with D major.
Make sure,
oh I didn't tell you, it's drop D tuning.
So tune this top string to a D.
It's a whole
step down on this.
The rest are the same.
It's called drop D tuning.
Middle finger 2E,
third finger 3B, first finger 2G.
The cool thing with drop D is when you hit a [D] D chord,
you get that low D on it.
[E] A good example of a song for that is Rage Against the [D] Machine
Killing in the name of.
The very first chord it's like.
[A] It's fatter.
It gives you a really
full sound.
This is a good example of that too.
He's not hitting this top one super hard
but it's in there.
So here's what you want to do.
[B] Because the melody is like.
[C]
[B] [C] [B]
[D] [B] So the
way it's feeling natural for me, and so this is how I think he's doing it, but is to start
with an upstroke [D] and hit all the strings.
Up, down.
Then go [E] 5G, 5B.
I'm using third
finger and pinky for that.
You'll see why.
[D]
[Am] And then do an upstroke softly like graze
all the strings.
[D] Watch.
Up, [Bm] down.
Then [D] do that.
I
[A] think that's in there.
[D] Dang it.
[A] Yeah.
[E] It's not loud.
It's not going [D] [G]
[Ab] real soft.
It's a filler to [D] keep it flowing.
[Am]
Okay.
So we did
the 5G, 5B.
You're going to strum those all six.
[D] Not hard.
[A] You don't want, particularly
these lows aren't really loud.
[D] [A]
Then go 4G, middle finger and 3B, first finger.
So we
have, mute out that high E with your first finger, angle it.
[D] Okay.
[A] Then rest to set your
strum [D] handle with the strings.
[A]
And go [Ab] 2G, middle finger, 1B, first finger.
It's the
same shape, just a whole step [D] flat.
[A] [Am] Upstroke.
Okay.
And then up, down, [Bm] [D]
[A] then lift [Em] them off,
opens, go up, down, and bring it right back [E] down to 2G, [Am] 1B.
Go up, down, up, and then
start [D] over.
[A]
[Em] [A] [Am] You [B] got a little rest in there.
[A] [C]
[B] [D] [A]
[D]
[Bm] [Am] [B] All right.
Great request.
I'm so stoked over
this one.
