Open G Slide Guitar Lesson Riffs, licks How to play chords
Start Jamming...
[G]
[D] Now just in case you're wondering, this lick can also be played with a beer [Em] bottle.
[G] Notice I'm holding it over the top, right?
You can also hold it like this.
I don't want to tip it over because it might have [D] something in it still.
[G]
Personally, I think it's easier to hold it like this.
[D] Fun, huh?
That's how easy that lick is.
You can even play it with a beer bottle, right?
So grab your slide.
I dropped my slide for the beer bottle.
And this is off of the, like I said, an open G tuning, right?
And we're going to be playing off of the lowest strings, our low sixth string, which is now
tuned to D, and our low A string.
[G] And I'm on the third fret, so basically I'm sliding up to the third fret on both strings.
So I play the low E, not low E, low D.
[Ebm] Hit it twice with your pick, down, [D] down, open,
right?
That's your open low string.
And then take your slide, place it on the second fret, and slide it up to the [F] third,
and then play your [G] open A.
And then slide on your open A, slide from your, place your
slide on the second fret of your A, and slide up to the third fret, and then open A again.
And when I say place your slide on the A, you know, you can't do that.
You have to place your slide on all the strings, right?
So let's start again from the, let's do it really slow this time, and I'll do it over
the top too and show you beer bottle style, how to play it.
So your open string, your lowest [D] string, play it twice.
Place your slide down on [E] the second fret and slide up to the third.
[F] Then lift your slide up and play [G] the A string.
Then place your slide down on the second fret again, only this time playing your A string,
and slide it up to the third [Bb] fret, and then lift [G] it and play your open A and your D.
Got a chord there, right?
Okay, so let's do it kind of in a continuous pattern, really slow together.
Ready?
One, two, [D] three, [A] [G] two, [D] three, [G]
three, [D] [G] two, three.
I was playing it real slow for you so you could try to play along with me.
And then as you build up speed, you still get that same rhythm.
Remember whenever you're playing the slide in the key of G with the open G tuning, you
can always do fills where you slide up to the 12th fret and play any of the notes there
with your slide.
Remember when we're doing that rhythm,
[Em] you can always slide [G] up.
Because that 12th fret is your G, you know, it's just an octave up.
So any of the notes there will work for doing fills, and it's always good to do a little
vibrato up there too.
So I hope you enjoyed that one, and we got a lot more coming up, so go and catch the
rest of the modules.
Thank you.
