I'm Guy Lee.
I'm here in Memphis.
I'm going to show you how to play the slide guitar intro to George Harrison's My Sweet Lord.
Now this song is in the key of F sharp minor.
George, when he recorded it and wrote it, he used a capo on the second fret and played
an E minor to [C#m] an A chord and [B]
[C#m] [B]
so on.
But technically, because of the capo, we're in the key of F sharp minor.
The first note we're going to play is an F sharp.
When we start on the first string, [G#] we're going to go from the 14th fret to the 16th fret.
Stay on the first string and go from the 14th to the 12th, 14th to the 12th.
Then we go to the second string and go 14, 12, 14.
[Em]
[F#]
The second phrase is almost the same except you're going to add three more notes.
You'll be on the second string, 14th fret, second string, 12th fret, first string, 12th fret.
This is the second phrase.
[C#]
[D] You end up on the second string on the 12th fret.
Now the third phrase is three notes from the [F#] beginning.
[Em]
Okay, all [N] on the first string.
Now we go to an A flat diminished chord.
George loves his diminished chords.
We start here on the 16th fret on the first string, the 13th fret, first string, the 10th fret, first string.
[A#] [Bm] Then we go to the second string.
We go to the 12th fret, then we go to the 15th fret, then we go back to the first string on the 13th fret.
[C#]
[N] Now we go to the second string.
We're going to go 12, 14, 12, 14, 12.
[G] [F#] Now we end up again on the second string going from the 9th fret to the 7th fret.
Use as much vibrato as you can.
It keeps the notes in tune.
Now I'll play [D#] along with it one more time.
Just to let you know, this rhythm track that I built, I used this Rainsong acoustic guitar.
I recorded five acoustic guitar parts and I EQ'd them all differently.
Some of them sound like a 12 string, some of them have mid-range, some of them are scooped out.
So it gives a whole powerful intro of My Sweet Lord.
Here we go.
