Hey Guitar Folks, I've had a request for Prince
I Wanna Be Your Lover, classic track off Dirty Mind
and well it's very funky and
if you've got two guitars then there's one
little lick that runs throughout the intro
it's octaves on the F sharp [Bm] erm
so we've just got on a straight four
[Gb] [Bb] ok and then so
[Abm] that's guitar one essentially and then
guitar two is
[B]
[E] [B]
ok so what I'm just playing is
[Abm]
[Ab] first chord is 6 [B] G sharp [Eb] B flat [B] erm [A] and then
erm what I'm [Gbm] gonna do is I'm gonna
I [Eb] could play a 4 [B] slightly easier
because I'm playing over basically a B chord
I [Ebm] could actually have an [G] F sharp on top of my little finger
which I tend to play to get that
because if I'm just playing guitar by myself [Gbm] I keep that kind [Abm] of
that F sharp note in so we could either do
ok [B]
so it's just
[Abm] so it's just all this shape and
6 4 6
[Gb] [Abm] 6 6 4
with
[B] some [Ab] little
little hammers [Gb] or
[B]
getting that note on top
which kind of if you've just got one guitar
it's kind of adding that
so what I also do if I've [Gbm] just got one guitar is I try and
keep [Em] that going a little bit on top so you [B] see erm
and
[Abm]
then we've got that little muted
6 4 [A] 6 4 G sharp
F sharp G sharp F sharp
[Gb]
[Abm]
[B]
[Gb] [Em] or you could [B] also play it up here
which is
11 12 [Ab] 14 then 13
so
[E] 13 12
[D]
14
and [Abm] 11 12 so you just
it's just exactly the same but an octave higher and [Bm]
[Fm]
[Gb] [G] then put that [B] on the end
[Gb]
up here and [Bbm]
that
is basically the whole verse section
so what I'm doing if I'm playing it [Ab] for the entire verse
I'll often play the intro up here
like
[B]
that and then when the singing comes
play it a bit softer, [Abm] play it an octave lower
so it sits under the vocal ok
and then we've got the sort of bridge chords what's that?
E major 7
[E] so 7 [Abm] 9 8
9 7 bar
[Ebm] 6 8 7
so that's a D [Eb] sharp minor 7
6 8 6 7 [Gb] 6
D sharp minor 7
it's only been a fair day [B] to see
so [Gb] that's an F sharp bar chord
2 4 4 3 2 2
[Abm] and then to a [G] G [Abm] sharp
minor 7 so 4 6
4 4 4 4 all the way across so
da [Ebm] [Gb] da da da [Abm] da da da
let me on
[B] ok
[N]
so great song
great song and then over the
instrumental bit towards the [B] end
ok [Abm] so the instrumental just goes
it's just a jam, it's just a [B] kind of
groove on a G sharp minor 7
so [G] you can put all that kind of [Abm] now lodges
[B] so [Ebm]
[Em] I'm just using the blues scale there
[Ebm] 4 6 4
6 4
[Abm] maybe a bit of that
so [Eb] [Abm]
you're kind of just jamming
making some cool rhythms up there
[Gb] now there's a keyboard solo but if you want to add that
you might as well, you might want to play it on guitar
[Ab]
[G] [Ab] [Bb]
[Abm]
[D] [Bb] [Abm]
[C] ok so that's nice so it's just C [Gbm] sharp
[Gm]
then to a B flat or A sharp I should probably say [Bb] sliding
[Bbm] so sliding so 14
11 with a little slide
[Db] then
[Abm] G sharp of [Gb] the 13th
[Ab] [C] [Db]
[Em] and then I do some little trill as well
[Gm] [Abm] so
[Gm]
11 [Bb] 12
[Eb]
[Dbm] [B] [Bb] so
F sharp G [Ab] sharp
11 13 [Eb] B
[Abm]
F sharp [Ab] G sharp G [Abm] sharp
11 on the A string
[G]
[Bb] [B]
[E] [D] [Ab] and
[Bbm] [B]
[Bb] [B]
[Bb] [Bm]
[Ab] [B] [N] that's it, that's I Want To Be Your Lover so enjoy
