Hey guitar folks, let's take a look at Prince when doves cry
[G]
That was the first lick of the intro great little lick in E minor
[Em] What you need to do is play a little swept arpeggio first E
14 frets D string
[E] G 12 fret [B] G string B 12 fret B string
[G] Then [Am] go [Dm] to a D
[Em]
Then the next bit [Bm] [G] C
[B] [Em] [Bm] then a trill
BCB and
[B] [Em] [B] then it's a B [Em] a
G [D] E D [B] [E] B.
That's just the blues scale, basically
[Bm] So
[B] [C#m]
So I'll do it really slowly
[G] [Fm] [B] That's [G] [B] [Em] the first bit
[F] [D] Okay
[C]
[G] And then we've got this
[Em] Sweep
[G] You
[G#] [G] don't have to do the sweep
But you can get it in
That's a bit more dynamics.
So it's just the 40 F sharp
[B] And then you hold the F sharp and give it a good old wiggle.
Give some vibrato
and
[G] then slide down so
[F]
[D] [B]
[N] Etc now this next bit is all kind of palm muted
That [E] [Bm]
kind of stuff [A] and so what [D]
to get into it it plays a little
However, [Am] you want play it's just a a GA
[D] That kind of play
[B] Seven five seven four
[C] And then we've got this [N] kind of palm muted now the way to play this it
It's very hard to tell exactly what it's playing because it's basically do a lot of fast muted tremolo picking
But these are the notes is picking out.
[F#] It's an F sharp [E] E [B] open B
[E]
[B] then [D] throw it in a
[G] D
Occasionally kind of pull it off and get the [E] muted G and open G in there.
So it's all quite kind of rough and ready quite [C] messy
And then just the last couple of times I think
You kind of place.
It's [E] the C before
Slide it down to end on a [D] B
[Em] [F#]
five seven
[B] So altogether it's also there
Yeah, [E] something like that.
Um, however, you play it as long as you kind of get in that [B] fast muted sound
And [E] [Bm]
[A]
[C] then there's this so strange noise, which is probably a keyboard do it
But you can emulate on the guitar by just [Fm] bending up the G sharp
[Am]
So groaning kind of noise and then hitting the edge
[D]
So altogether [F#] it's something like [D] this
All
[G]
[F] [A]
[B] [Em] right, so that's kind of the intro and then let's go and have a look at the chords
Okay, let's take a look at the rhythm.
And so after we've done the little introduction, we've got this little [F] section
We should be playing it
It's an F
[Am] I'll [Em] just play the top four strings because to keep it [F] funky
Then [Am] you take your first finger off to get an a [B] minor or an F major [A] 7 so
[F]
[Am] [G] down to a G
[C] 5 [G] 4 3 3
[B] so I'll [F] go
[G] [F]
A [G] [Bm] [Am] [Em] minor G [F] [Am] F a minor [G] a minor G
[F]
[Em] [Am] [G] [Bm]
A
Okay, so that's the little riff [F] that we get in there
[C#] [E] and then we've got the chords [Am] for the song
[Dm] This is a minor D
[G] G then we've got an e augmented [C] fifth [E] to an e7.
So I'll just play
[Am]
[Dm] [G]
[E] [Am] [Dm]
[G] [Dm] [E]
[G#] And
Then we get that's basically the whole chords the song goes around that and
Then when we get to the chorus bit [F] this kicks back in
[G] [F]
[G] [Em] Okay, so let's kick it off there.
Enjoy Prince and later on
I'll do a little tutorial for the solo which you can wiggle out on at the end in a minor
Okay, happy guitar playing
