What's up guys, Brandon Slavinski here, awesome tutorial for you today.
It's Cheryl Crow's Soak Up The Sun.
It's a dope song.
I'm going to teach you almost exactly what she's doing.
So check it out.
Starting off with an E, up the top, right up here.
It's going to be mute 7 9 9 9.
And you're going to go just like this.
And [B] these are all going to be power chords, right?
And that's going to be 7 9 9 on that B.
[A] And then an A, just like that, it's going to be
5 7 7.
[E] [F#] [A] Sometimes I like to open the A up and do this chord.
[Em] [E]
[A] If you want to learn that chord, it's 5 7 7 6 0. That's for more advanced players. [E] [F#] [E] [F#] [A] Okay? So now that we've gotten past that part, we can do the [E] verse. Same chord progression, just a little different technique. You're going to take that 7 and that 9, and you're going to use your pinky, and you're just going to [D] lift and put it right back [E] where it's at. [F#] [A] [E] [A] Almost the same strumming pattern as the intro, right? [E] [B] [A] [D] [E] [G#] [A] And then, [Em] so that's what goes on through the entire verse. Then it goes, I'm going to [F#] soak up the sun. So that E to the [E] B, right? [Bm] I'm going to soak up the sun. I'm going to tell everyone. This is where it gets crazy. [F#] One, to an F sharp, and that's 2 4 4. [F#m] You can do an F sharp minor, if you're really feeling it and being more advanced, [G#m] to a G sharp minor, to [A] an A. [E] [F#m] Okay? So check it out. It's going to be F sharp minor to [G#m] a G sharp minor, which is going to be 4 6 6 4 4 4, [A] to an A. [C#] And you can just do bar chords for this. [A] To an A, which is going to be 5 7 7 6 5 5, to a [C#] C sharp [C#m] minor, [B] to a B. Okay? [C#m] C sharp minor is mute, 4 6 6 5 4. [B] And then that B, which is the same B as here, just trying to make it easy for you. And that's going to be mute, 2 4 4 4. Little complex, but once you learn it, it's awesome [F#] and it makes total sense. So [E] you're going to go I'm going to soak up [B] the sun. [C#] Da da da da da da da [B] da da [F#] da. Da da da [E] da da da da da da [B] da da da da da da da. Down to the F sharp. Da da [C#] da da da da da da da [B] da da. I'm [E] going to tell everyone. [G#] [E] [A] Okay? [E] Next part, the only other part that you need to know is after the second verse, she does this like crazyit's almost like a pre-chorus, right? So check it out. That's an E, [F#] to a B, to a [D] D, which is 5 7 7, [A] to an A. [E] And then she does this again, the E, and [B] then the B. And then she goes [G] down to a G on the third fret, which is 3 5 5, [A] to the A. [Em] Every [Bm] time I turn [A] around, you're looking up, you're looking down. Maybe [G] something's wrong with you that makes me act the [E] way you do. I'm going to soak up the [B] sun. I'm going [C#] to tell [D#] everyone. [A] To the left [F#] and right. Da da da da [E] da da da da da da [B] da da da da [C#] da [G#] da da da [F#] da da da. I'm going to soak [E] up the sun. [A] [D] [E]
