What's up guys, Brandon Slavinski here and this is an awesome tutorial video.
You remember when you saw Austin Powers and then Dr.
Evil and Little Mini Me were just
playing piano and he was like, what if God was one of us?
Okay, so we're learning that song today.
I know, sometimes I just teach these for my own entertainment.
So we're going to start off with the, it's kind of like a verse, right?
And just so you know, I'm going to teach it in a beginner [C] style, show you a couple advanced
techniques so that you can just get [F#m] that cool feel for the song.
So we're going to start off with an E minor and [F] that's, oh, capo on second fret, just
so you know, [F#m] capo on second fret, 0-2-2-0-0-0.
And [D] then a C add 9, it's going to be mute, 3-2-0-3-3.
[A] And then a G, and that's going to be 3-2-0-0-3-3.
And then [E] a D, which is going to be mute,-0-2-3-2. So we're going to go [F#m] through these chords, right? Say that you're just strumming it, [D] so this would be for [A] like beginners, [E] [F#m] [A]
[E] [F#m] okay? So [D] for [A] [E] [F#m] [D]
[F#] advanced [F#m] players, [A] [E] [A] so just like that, that's going to be pretty much what you're going to do. [F#m] [A] [E] [F#m]
So to do that, you're going to go with that E minor first, and then you're going to take your ring [C#] finger and put it on the second fret of the high E [F#m] string, and you're going to go from your ring to your pinky, onto the third fret, and then open to that C position, okay? [D] [F#m] And what I'm doing is I'm doing like this open C, which is [D] mute, 3-2 [F#m]-0-0-0, [D] and then I'm doing a standard C where I'm adding my index finger on the B string, first fret, and then my pinky up to the third fret on that same string. Beginners, this might be a little confusing, but if you watch the video a couple times, [F#m] you'll get it. Open, [A] and then just a regular G, [E] and then when you do the [B] D, you have to get that transition into the [E] E minor. You're going to lift your finger up and then press back on for that high E string on the second [F#m] fret, and then we go to the E again. [A] [E] [F#m]
[A] [F#] See because then we kind of get both parts, [D] both guitar parts in there all at once, and you get that lead line so you can hear that, what if God was one of us? So then, that's the verse, right? Then she goes into this like pre-chorus slash chorus where it's going to be a C, mute, 3-2-0-3-3, C add 9. Yeah, yeah, [A] to a G, God [E] is great. [E] So we're going from that C [A] add to the G to the D. C add, G, G, [D] C add, yeah, yeah, and then to a [E] D. Yeah, yeah, yeah, [F#m] what if God was one of us? [E] [F#m] To the E minor, to the C add 9, G, [D] D, and just if you want to make it so that you're like mobile and you can move [F#m] very freely for beginners,-2-2-0-3-3, and you literally practically keep your fingers there at the same time, like all at once. [D] To the C, [A] to the G, [E] and then to the D. [F#m] [A] [E] [F#m] Just a sound like one [A] of us, [E] [F#m] just a stranger on the bus just [E] trying to make his [F#m] way home. [A] [F#] So just like [D#] that, you've learned all you need to know for Joan Osborne's What If God Was One of Us. Now, don't forget, if you're an advanced player, then you should be able to arpeggiate through the chords [F#m] like they have, just playing through it, [E] and then be sure to watch that verse [F#m] part so you can learn that, [D] [F#] because it's [N] pretty dope. So until next time, be sure to watch the practice video, and we'll see you there. Peace. Thank you so much for joining us today.
