How to Play "One" by U2 on Guitar chords
Start Jamming...
Hey everybody, it's Julie from Mahalo.
I hope you're having a great day out there.
I'm going to teach for you right now by request from Mr.
Carlos.
Hi out there.
One by U2 or as it's sometimes known, One Love.
So let's get started.
I'm going to teach you the intro riff first and then the chords.
But the chords in the intro riff kind of interlock so it should be helpful.
Okay, so we need A minor, which is open, two, two, one, and open.
[Em]
And so what we're going to do is hammer on that second fret of the G string [Am]
and
then strum it.
And then probably just strum the E and the B string [Cm] down and
then take your pinky, place it on the third fret of the [D] D like that and
then [C] lift it off, place [A] it back [C] like so.
[Em] I'll do it again.
[Am] [C]
So that's the A minor.
[A] Then we're going to play Dsus2.
Now you'll notice I'm playing it in this form.
I'm playing it two and then I have my first and
third finger both on the B string on the first and third frets.
That's because I'm going to move this third finger back and forth.
So I'm going to strum it and then move it back and forth.
I'm strumming the B and the G string [D] like that.
I'll do it again.
Then I'm going [E] to move this third finger over [Ab] to the third fret of the D string
and keep my [B] other fingers where they're at to [Am] play F major 7.
And then I'm going to repeat what I did for the A minor, which is [C] strum the B and
the E, then third [D] fret B, [C] then take it off, [D] put it back on.
[Am] So with that F major 7.
And then I'm going to play [G] G major, which is this form, three, two, open, open,
three because my [Eb] first finger is, you guessed it, going to move back and
forth between the first fret of the B string to get that Gsus4, like [Gm] so.
So all together, I'll go slow.
[Am] [D]
[F]
[Am] [G] [Gm]
So there you go.
[Bb] That's your opening riff.
Now, [Am] if you didn't want to do that, you could just play the chords,
which is A minor.
[Gb]
[Abm] And I'm doing down, down, up, down, up, down.
So A minor, [A] down, up, Csus2, [G] down, up, [F]
F major 7, down, up, [G] down, G.
But this one, I really like the sus4, so go ahead and put that in there.
[Am]
[Em] And that, my friends, is also how you play the verse.
[Am] So it's A minor,
[A] Csus2, [F] F major 7, [G] G.
Now, if you're singing, [N] maybe you're going to modify your strumming.
I know that I do.
So I'm going to play it and sing.
And if the strumming is different, bear with me.
But at least you can hear where the chords go.
[Am] So here we go.
Is it [A] getting better, [F]
or do you [G] feel the same?
[Am] A minor.
Will it make [A] it easier on you now?
[F] Csus2, F major 7.
You got [G] someone's blame, G.
[C] Well, it's time for the chorus.
That's what time it is. All right.
So the chorus, we need C major, which is on the A string, 3, 2, open 1, and open.
[Am] A minor, [F] F major [C] 7, and back to C.
So like this.
C to the [Am] right.
A minor.
To the right.
[F] F major 7.
Drag the [C] past out.
Back to C.
To the right.
Again, C.
We're one.
[Am] A minor, but we're not the same.
F major [F] 7.
We care each other.
[C] Then C.
Care each other.
[Am] One.
A minor.
[A]
Dsus2, [F] F major 7, [G] G with the sus.
[Am] [Ab] All right.
And then we just repeat the verse and the chorus.
And then we get into the little bridge part, which is the love is a temple,
love is a [C] higher law.
We're going to start on C like this.
Love is a temple.
[Am] A minor.
Love is a higher law.
Again, [C] C.
Love is a temple.
A minor.
[Am] Love is a higher law.
[C] C.
You ask me to enter.
[G] G.
Then you make me crawl.
G again.
I can't be [F] holding on.
F major 7.
What you got.
F major 7.
What you [C] got.
Insert chorus.
C.
One love.
[Am] A minor.
One blood.
[F] F major 7.
One life.
[C] You've got to do what you should.
C major.
Again.
One life.
[Am] A minor.
With each [F] other.
F major 7.
Sisters.
[C] Back to C.
Brothers.
[Eb] And you're going to play those chorus chords all the way out, you guys.
That's how you play One by U2.
