Hey, everybody.
It's Julie welcome to Mahalo
I'm your guitar instructor, and I've got a great classic country tune to teach you guys today
Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be Cowboys
So this was done by Willie Nelson also by Waylon Jennings and a bunch of [Ab] others
So let's get started pretty easy song.
I'm going to teach [Bb] you the first four chords that you need so you need
[D] D major
Which is open two three and two on the D string and then [G] G major?
Which is three two open open three and three and [Em] then a major?
[A] Which is open a two two two and open and then a seven which are going to remove that middle one
And play open two [Em] open two and open [Abm] and the strumming pattern is a six eight
So it's going to be down down up down up down down up down [Bb] up on each chord
Starting with [Gb] the chorus which is the Willie Nelson version starting on [D] D
then [G] to G
then [A] to a a
7 then [D] to D.
So with vocals sound something like this
Your babies grow up [G] be G Cowboy
then to a
[A] Let them pick guitars and driving old trucks a seven make them be doctors [D] and be
such
Mamas don't let your babies grow up to [G] be Cowboy
to a
[A] They'll never stay home, and they're always alone a seven even with someone
[D] See that's your chorus your verse pretty much the same, so let's go right into it, so D

[G]
G
then to [A] a
Long a seven the time [D] girl
Repeat that so D
Star belt buckles and old faded Levi's and each night begin
[G]
Hey, and then today [A] you don't understand
He don't die young a seven
Lovely just right [D] away
[Bb] And then you repeat the chorus now after the second chorus
There will be a key change, so let me go through those chords, [E] so we need a
Major which is open two to one open and open and then a [A] major
Just like the last time and then we're going to [B] play B major
Which you're going to bar [Bb] that first finger on the second fret and then it's four four and [B] four
[Bb] And then we are also going to come [B] and play
These seven which is on the a string two one two open and two
So same strumming pattern same form starting with e
[E]
Clear [A] Mountain a
and be [B] little warm puppies and be seven girls [E] of
Repeat that then I know no
More like a
[A] know how to say and to [B] be
Be seven
[E] E back to the chorus
