Start Jamming...
Hi everybody, this is Diego.
A few days ago I received a notification from
YouTube because a user on my channel Floyd Diego 75 asked me to reshoot the
video of a cover of a Jackson Brown song I shot nearly two or three years ago
to reshoot it from a different angle because he wanted to see my hands while
I played it.
So I decided to do something more.
I decided to break down the whole
song and explain you and show you how I played.
The song is one of my favorites
by Jackson Brown and it's called In the Shape of a Heart.
I gotta point out that
the version I used as a reference is the one that's contained in a DVD called
Going Home which was released in the mid 90s after Jackson Brown's album I'm
Alive was released.
And this DVD features some live versions of some of the some
of Jackson Brown's hits and some interviews as well.
This song is played
in a key of E so this is the main [E] chord E major.
Okay so now I'm gonna start with
the intro of the song and show you the first chord changes.
Remember to
use some palm muting so you have to mute the strings of the guitar with the lower
part of the palm of your hand like this.
Okay so let's start with the intro E
major then it moves [Cm] to [C#] C sharp minor A [A]
and now be careful with the next chord
next chord is a B chord with A in the bass so in order to play this chord you
have to pick the fifth string and you have to play the A chord like this but
you have to move it down two frets like this.
[B] Okay [A]
so [B]
let's start again from the
beginning [Em] two [C#]
[A]
[B] [A] times [B] okay and then comes the first verse of the song.
[E]
[C#]
[A] [B]
[A] [B]
It [E] was a time I won't forget [A] [C#] for the sorrow and regret [A] in the shape of a
heart [B]
[A] in the shape of a heart.
[E] Play the whole chord here.
[D] [C#m]
[A] I guess I never knew what she was talking about
I guess I never knew what [B] she was living without.
Play the B chord here [D] okay.
[E]
People speak of love and don't know what they're [C#m] thinking of.
Wait around for the
one who fits just like [A] a glove.
Speak in [B] terms of belief and belonging.
[A]
Try to [G] fix
[B] something to that longing.
[E]
[G] [C#m]
[A]
People speak of [B] love.
[A]
[B] B, Bsus4
[G] [E] was a hole left in the wall [C#m] from some
ancient fight.
This is the second verse.
By [A] the size of a [B] fist, [A] something thrown there and missed.
[B]
[E] There were other holes as well [B] [C#m] in the house where an ass fell.
[A] Far too many to [B]
repair
[A] in the times [B] that we were there.
[E] People speak of love and don't know what they're
[C#m] thinking of.
Reach out to each other through the [A] cushioned shove.
Speak in
terms [B] of life and learning.
[A] Try to [Dm] find [B] a word for the burning.
[E]
[C#m]
[G] [A] You keep it up.
[B] You try so [A] hard to keep
a life [B] from coming apart.
[A] I never know [B] what breaches [A] and faults are [G] concealed
in [B] the shape of a heart.
[D#] Then comes the [C#] Asus2 [A] chord.
[B] B chord.
In the shape [A] of a heart.
[D] [B]
B, Bsus4.
[D] [A] Asus2.
[G] [B]
In the shape [A] of a heart.
[B] B, Bsus4.
[G] [E]
And then you keep the same structure for the rest of the song.
I hope this video was useful.
Enjoy your night.
Hope to see you again soon.
Bye bye.
