Hey guys, Party Marty here, Easy Guitar Tunes.
I have got another Canadian legend, Gordon Lightfoot song for you guys.
I'm a big fan of Gordon Lightfoot as you know, and I'm Canadian, so I'm very very proud to put this one up as well.
This has been requested a bunch of times too.
This has actually been turned into a dance tune, and
I've seen it in movies, Club 54, I think it was.
It was a disco tune, and anyway, Gordon Lightfoot wrote this tune,
so very very cool.
It's called, If You Could Read My Mind.
Beautiful tune the way he does it.
Very nice, slow,
beautiful strum as well.
So we'll get through this one and have a look at it.
So now the chords in it are G,
there's [F] an F.
You can also borrow that F if you want.
I just, [G] with the F chord, I tend to just borrow the two bottom strings with my index.
You need any help with the [Eb] chords at all, by the way, too.
There's [C] always a chord help link in the info, in all of my videos there.
You can click on it there if you need any chord help.
There's a C,
[D] there's a D,
there's an [Em] E minor, and there's an [Am] A minor.
[G] So again, there's a G,
there's [F] an F,
[C] there's a C,
a [D] D,
[Em] an E minor, [Am] and an A minor.
[C] There's also a quick run from C to A minor, and all that is is your C chord,
then you're lifting that third [G] finger, you're jumping [B] that second string up one into the second fret, single note, [Am] and then the A minor.
So it [C] just sounds like this.
[G] I'll do it again.
[C] C,
[G] note,
[Am] A minor.
So practice that a [G] couple of times.
It does sound pretty.
You don't even have [F] to do that, really.
It just makes the song sound a little prettier.
So the strum's [D] a very basic, nice, slow.
You're not banging on the strings.
[G] You're not going too late.
It's kind of just a
You're going up and down, hitting them nice and easy.
I'm barely touching that pick.
Nice and soft.
Let the guitar do the work, alright?
Kind of like this.
[F]
[G]
[C]
[D] [Bm]
And then when you get comfortable [Db] with that strum, you can [G] kind of play with it a little more if you like.
All I'm doing is brushing them up and down nice and slow, trying to make them sound pretty.
So strumming [D] too is all about practice, guys.
It does [B] come easy.
It can make [Eb] you make it wrong a little bit, which I encourage, right?
It's all about having some fun.
So any questions, let me know.
But [G] that's basically the way I play it.
So practice that strum, practice those chords, and then join us for the song.
So here we go.
Gordon Lightfoot, If [G] You Could Read My Mind.
If you could read my mind, love, [F]
what a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie,
by the ghost from wishing well.
[G]
In a castle dark,
or [C] a fortress strong,
[D] with chains upon [Em] my feet,
you [C] know that the [G] ghost is me.
[C] I will never [G] set you free, [Am] as long as [D] I'm the ghost that you [G] can't see.
If you could read my mind, love, [F] what a tale your thoughts could tell.
[G] Just like a paperback novel, [F] the kind that the drugstore sells.
[G] When you reach the part,
where [C] the part ain't cold, [Em] the [D] hero would [Em] be.
[C] But heroes often fail.
You won't read [G] that book to me,
[Am] because the end is [D] just too [G] far to take.
[F]
[F] [G]
I'd walk away,
like a [C] movie star, who got [D] burned in a three [Em]-way split.
[C] Enter [G] number two.
[C] A movie queen can play the scene, [Am] of bringing all [D] the good things out in [G] me.
But for [C] now, my love, let's be real.
I never thought I could [G] feel this way, and [Am] I gotta say that [D] I just don't get it.
[C] I don't know where [G] we went wrong, the [Am] feeling's gone, and I [D] just can't get it right.
[F]
