Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here from GuitarJams.com.
Totally stoked to bring you a cool modern blues rock fusion riff progression.
I think you're going to have a lot of fun doing it.
But also it's related to a DVD set that I've got on sale this week.
And you can see the link for it right down there.
And I'm going to pick three comments from this video to win that set for free.
And it's my Blues Rock Rhythm Revolution DVD set.
And you know, it's stuff like [B] this, stuff like Hendrix, you know, Clapton Cream, Gary
Clark Jr.,
White Stripes, you know, Jack White, Black Keys, list goes on and on.
[E] It's right down there and I really appreciate you checking it out.
But enough of that, let's break this riff down right now.
Here we go.
All right, so in that intro, I'm using what's called a fuzz pedal.
So you've got overdrive pedals, distortion pedals, and fuzz pedals.
And they pretty much do what they sound like.
So I was just using a digital fuzz setting on my Line 6 M9, you know, stomp model or
thingy and, you know, it's pretty authentic.
But you know, there's all kinds of fuzz pedals out there to give you that kind of modern
sound that a lot of guys like Black Keys and Gary Clark Jr.,
Jack White, you know, that
fusion of blues with other kinds of stuff.
You know, fuzz is one of the go-tos.
So I'm going to teach you the lick though with just a clean setting, you know, just
so we can hear the notes and kind of [F#] break it down.
[A] [D]
[G] [E]
And [Em] that's it.
See you guys later.
No, I'm just kidding.
So it's in the E minor pentatonic.
The chord underneath, like on [E] the organ, is an E minor.
[Em]
[B] And we're going to play this little lick or riff actually, more of a riff.
It's a hammer-on from the zero to the two on the A string [A] [B] like that.
Then we're going to play the open D string [A] [Bm] just like that.
And that's a cool lick in its own right, [E]
[A] you know, that kind of thing.
But so once again, hammer-on zero to two on the A, [B] open [D] D.
[A] And I'm using my middle finger
because I'm going to get my ring finger here on the third fret of the low E eventually.
[Bm]
[G] [E]
Okay?
So we've got that hammer-on zero to two on [A] the A, [B] open [D] D.
Then we're going to do that
same hammer-on zero to two on the [A] A again, [B]
immediately followed by the ring finger on
the third fret of the low [A] E like [G] that.
[B] We're going to nudge it a little bit too.
[G]
[E] [A] Put them together.
[B] [D] [B] [G]
Once again, even slower, [A]
[B] [D] [A]
[B] [G]
followed by a hammer-on from the zero to the two on the D [D] string.
[E] Put those [A] together.
[Bm] [A] [B] [G]
[E]
As soon as you hit that though, we're going to hit the low octave of it on the open E string.
[A] [Bm] [G]
[E] And then back again [Em] to the octave here, which is the second fret of the D.
[E]
When you have fuzz, it's like [Em] really sustaining out with that fuzzy tone.
Put them together.
[A]
[Bm] [G] [E]
[Bm]
[G] [E]
[Bm] [G] [E]
[D] [G] [E]
[D] [G] [E]
[D] [G] [E]
[Bm] [G] [E]
[A] [Bm] [A]
[B] [G] [D] [E]
[D]
[G] [E] [A]
[Bm] [A] [B] [G]
[D] [E]
Now the change is, it goes to an A minor.
[Am] And now, do, do.
[D] [E] [D] [G]
[E] [A] [D]
[Bm] B minor.
So it's [E] just a one, it's a one, four, five, [Bm] like a 12-bar blues, more or less.
But the three chords, the one, four, and five are all minors.
You can play a bar chord minor.
[Am] And with a lot of fuzz, maybe you want to do power chords.
[D] [G]
[E] [D]
[C] You know?
[Am]
[D] [E]
[D] [G] [E]
[D] [G] [B]
[Bm] [Am]
Ain't got nowhere [E] else to go.
[Bm] [G] [E]
Let me tell you [G] about it.
[Em]
Right?
I'm going to tell you all about it for the next 20 minutes.
Yeah.
All right, that was it.
Hope you enjoyed it.
Remember, I'm picking three comments to win that DVD set that's in that link down there.
Thanks so much for hanging out.
And, you know, I'm going to make some more videos again as soon as I can.
And we'll see you there again.
All right?
See ya.
