[C] Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here from GuitarJams.com.
Hope you're doing well.
I got another quick lick idea for you.
It's right in the key of D, kind of like a [Ab] D rock sound, D minor pentatonic with one outside note.
We really enjoy getting some of those exotic sounds that are not in the pentatonic but
will still work in our rock solos.
I'm going to show you one of those ideas right now.
We'll zoom in and break it down, but real quick, you can try GuitarJams.com [Ebm] for free
[E] for two weeks in that link down there.
Tons of progressive lessons that take you step by step through all kinds of styles.
Anything you can think of, it's right there in that link down there.
I really appreciate that support.
Check it out if you can.
Let's zoom in though and learn another tasty little morsel right now.
Here we go.
All right.
I've got a real fast lick that you can do that takes what's called the nine.
You have the normal pentatonic scale, but now we're going to actually play, we're going
to add a note to it.
You can just think of this as D rock.
If I looked at this D minor pentatonic [D] extension, I'm kind of plugging in my root here, which
is the 10th fret of the [C] low E, and then I have this.
[Dm] [G] [Am] [Dm] [Gm]
This [Ab] is where I'm going to start with teaching you a lick.
Ring finger is on the 15th fret of the B string, which is the [Gm] root.
Another spot where the root of D minor pentatonic is.
We have this little box right here, which would be 13, 15 on the B, [D] and then you have
13, 15 on the high E as well.
It's a little [Bb] box.
I actually call that note right there the rock star bend in some of my lessons.
[C] [Gm] [D] [Bb]
[Ab] Now, lots of [C] stuff right there.
You can do a whole solo right on those two strings and those four notes.
Here's the lick I'm going to show you.
It's a little, it's kind of a fast speed lick, but you can just know that this note is there.
We've got [Bb] 13, 15 with index ring.
Then my [E] index is going to go to the 12 now of the high E.
I'm going to play 12, [Gb] 13, [C] 12,
and then back with my ring finger to the 15 of [Bb] the B.
Let
[C]
me show you how I can do it that fast, because I'm not picking every note.
I believe Joe Bonamassa could do that, but I cannot do that.
Okay, so we're going to hammer on from the 13 to the 15 on the B.
[Bb] [E] Then we pick that 12
of the high E, [Bb] and then with one more pick, [E]
I'm doing a pull off.
[C] [Gb]
Check this out.
A down pick [C] on the B, [Bb] then an [E] up pick on that, then the next down pick, [Bb] [C] watch again, [Bb]
then
an up stroke on that B again.
Sorry, [Gm] [C] one more time.
