Hi, this is [Em] Gaylord again.
I thought I'd [N] do a quick one for you for Lay Down Sally.
[G#m] And a really easy [A] song.
It's just [D] A, G, [E] E, I think are the three basic chords.
The only [G] difference, you know, when you're playing it with an acoustic [G#] guitar, when I
play a lot of around town, [A] when I'm playing on acoustic, remember you want to try and
[C#] fill in as much as you [A] can so you can't just stomp like you're sitting around a campfire.
[E] So I'm going to show you a couple of the licks that [N] I use.
It sounds a lot better sometimes
on an electric guitar, but if you're doing it with an [E] acoustic, you can do a lot of fill
in.
So here's what I do.
When I'm starting, this is just an A, regular A [A] chord.
What all
I'm doing is I'm basically hitting the 6th and the 5th and [E] a little bit of the 4th string,
kind [A] of like
[Em] You know, it's a key.
I'm going to tell you [A] this right now.
A lot of
guitar players, when they strum, you'll see their whole hand is moving [F#] like this when
they [Em] strum.
Don't do that.
When you want to strum, you want to strum real easy.
I hold
that pick, I use [D#] a .38mm,
real thin pick, .38.
Anyway, you want to hold it real light
so it's almost going to knock out of your hand when you're playing.
All mine is all
[E] wrist motion.
So anyway, [F#] just a little extra for you there.
Here's [E] an A [A] chord.
I'm doing
that on an upbeat.
I have a little riff for you to do.
[E] [A] It goes like this.
[E]
[A] [Em] [A]
[Em]
[F#] [E] I'm just using
my index finger and my pinky.
[A]
When you're strumming an A, you want to use your bass
notes on the 6th string [Em] and the 5th string.
[A] That's open 5th right there, [F#]
2nd on the [E] 6th,
open [F#] 6th, 2nd, [G] [A] 3rd,
[G]
[G] [F#]
it's like that.
[A]
It goes in like that when you're hitting those notes.
Then it goes to a D.
[G]
[E]
[A]
[Em] Here's what you're [F] doing on [D] that D.
It's your regular open there.
[A] I'm
on the 5th string [D] then, open 4, and then 2nd on the 5th.
[A] [D]
[B] [Bm]
[A] [Bm] [B]
[A] Then I'm going [E] down to an
E.
[B]
[E] All I'm doing there is I'm on the 5th string, [B] 2nd and 4th [E] fret.
[B] [E]
I'm hitting it with like
the 6th, 5th, and 4th strings.

[A] [D]
[A] [D]
[A] On that [D] lick, there's a lot of different ways to [G] play that.
I've seen people do that all kinds of different ways.
When you're [A] playing one guitar, remember,
you're going to have to try and make that as full as you can and as [D] smooth as you can.
[A] [G] The easiest way to do this for you, just use your [F#] open 4th and open [G] 3rd.
[A] [D]
[G] [A] While
[G] that's [A]
[G] [A]
[G] [A]
[F] not
[G] exactly what he's [A] doing like that, when you're playing by yourself, you've got a singer behind
you, that's the best way to keep it sounding full with one guitar and maybe a drum machine.
Here we go.
