[E] [G]
Okay, today I'm going to teach you [E] a song by Eric Clapton.
It's off of his [C] Slow Hand LP.
It's a great song.
It's called The [C#] Core.
A lot of people seem to like it.
So, let's learn [C] it.
[F] Basically, the [D#] song's in three [C#] parts.
[E] There's the intro and the verse, which [C#] are basically the same thing.
It's the main riff of the [E] song.
Then there's a [C#] chorus, which will play a couple of bar [B] chords.
Then after the chorus, there's a [C#] cool little break.
So we'll learn all three of those.
[B] It also has a solo, but we won't [F] get into that today.
[E] Basically, the main riff [C] is going to deal with two main chords, [A] being an E and an A.
[C#] We're going to play abbreviated [A] versions of those, and I'll show those to you in just a minute.
Anyway, the song [E] starts with a [F] hammer-on on the fourth string.
[B]
You pick it open, and then you [C#] hammer-on to the second fret.
[A]
What [E] you want to do is [Em] continue fretting that [E]
note, even when you're not playing it, because you're going to come back to it a couple of times.
After you do that hammer-on, just hang on to that note.
[G] After the hammer-on, [E]
hit the open E string, which is the sixth string.
Then we're [A] coming back again to that note that we've [C#] hammered on to on the [E] second fret.
Then we're going to hit it again, and then go back to the open E.
When you put it together, it's
[D] again.
[E]
Then we're going to play an [A] abbreviated version of the E chord.
[E] We're not going to play the whole [Em] thing.
We're only going to play the fourth [Fm] string and the third string.
Your [F]
middle finger goes on [E] the fourth string on the second [C#m] fret, [C#] and your index finger goes on the third string [D] on the first fret.
You just play those two [G#] strings.
Then we do the same thing for an [A#m] abbreviated A chord.
[E] We just play the third and fourth strings again, [F#] both fretted on the second [A] fret.
If you put the whole first part [E] of the riff together, it sounds like
[A]
[E] Okay?
The second part of the riff starts off the same way, with the hammer-on.
Back to hitting the open E.
[A] Instead of going to the E chord, [G#] we're going to do a pull-off and [B] a hammer-on.
[F#m]
We're going to [G] start the pull-off on the fifth [Em] fret with the fifth string.
We're going to pull-off to the fourth [E] fret, and then we're going to [D] pull-off open.
Get [A]
a little practice.
[G] Then we're going to hammer [A]-on the fifth string to the second fret, [B]
[D] and hit the open [Bm] D string.
[D]
[A] [D]
[F#] We put it all [E] together.
[D]
That's the riff that pretty much [F] goes through the entire song.
The [F#m] chorus is just [E]
four bar chords, basically.
It starts off with an E to a B, [B]
then a D [D] to an A.
That's [E] pretty much it.
[B]
[A] [B]
[A]
[B]
[E] There's your chorus.
Then it goes through that cool [A#m] little break I was telling you [Gm] about.
It [E] starts off with the fifth string on the second fret, and we hammer-on to the fourth fret.
[C#] [A]
Then we go to the fourth string on the second fret.
Back to [C#] the fifth string on the fourth fret.
Then [E] back to the fifth string on the second fret.
[F#m] [B]
[E]
[B] [C#m] [B]
[D#] Then we go down to the fourth fret, third [G] string.
[D#] We're going to hit that [G] on the fourth fret, [E] [F] on the second [D] fret, and [E] the first fret.
[G#]
[E] Just like that.
You can fancy it up a [B] little bit if you want to.
[G#]
Any [E] way you want to do it.
Then we're going to hit a full open A [A] chord.
[F#] We're going to repeat that.
Instead of hitting an A [C#] chord, we're going to hit an E [F#m] chord.
[A]
[B]
Do it [F#] again with the A.
[A]
Then we're going to do it one more [F] time, but instead of going back to that E [C#] chord, we're going to start the riff over again.
[A]
[E] [A]
[E] [D]
[E] That's [Em] pretty much it.
Hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks.
