We are here at the [D] Cloverlick Banjo Shop in Fort Collins, Colorado, celebrating handmade
[G] things and fading craftsmanship.
This [D] is for everybody that has a job that doesn't count for much anymore.
[A]
[G]
[D] Well Tulsa's last magician [G] got his start [D] at four, pulled a quarter from his own [A] ear and
spun it on the floor.
[Bm] Since there's no good [A] tricks but old [Bm] [D] ones, and lying [G] ain't that hard.
[D] He saved up [G] all his quarters [D] and he bought a deck of cards.
And he learned ragtime piano, [G] though his teacher thought [D] him slow.
Got a black belt in karate [A] from a pawn shop video.
[Bm] And he'd practice [A] all his worst [D] mistakes in a dirty [G] bathroom mirror.
And when his mother drank, he learned [D] to disappear.
[G] And his classmates thought him [D] funny [G] and good at sleight [D] of hand.
[G] But he had this [D] grand finale they [A] just couldn't understand.
[Bm] Oh it's hard [A] to tell the whole [D] truth of a family [G] sawed in half.
And that's why Tulsa's last magician left [D] his home so fast.
[A]
[G] [E] [D]
Well down in Alton Reno, [G] broke [D] in Santa Fe, turning tricks on Los Sueneros out in [A] California.
[Bm] When they pushed him [A] up against [D] a wall, said, buddy [G] get a grip.
So he learned to set himself on fire on the Las Vegas [D] Strip.
And he wandered down to Tampa, [G] blew [D] everybody's minds.
Cause the crowd was cheap and easy there [A] on beer and blowing wine.
[D] Said, I wonder [A] where my [D] dollar went, had that flower [G] bloomed so fast.
Said, I can't reveal my secret, though they rarely [D] failed to ask.
He had [G] a crowd all [D] thought him funny [G] and good at [D] sleight of hand.
[G] But he had [D] this grand finale they [A] refused to understand.
They [Bm] demanded [A] explanation [D] when the card pulled [G] was their own.
And that's why Tulsa's last magician lost his faith [D] and headed home.
[A]
[E] [G] [D]
Well he said he'd learn computers [G] like his second [D] foster dad.
And free range all the rabbits [A] that were living in his hat.
[Bm] His investments [A] all went [Bm] swimmingly [D] and the cash on [G] hidden strings.
[D] His promotions were [G] a certainty, could make the numbers [D] sing.
Now time and space is easy [G] for magic to [D] control.
Still it was 40 years of working [A] before he noticed he was old.
[Bm] Now his great [A] escape and act [D] is just untying [G] both his shoes.
And most days he's in his easy chair yelling at [D] the news.
[G] And the weatherman [D] is funny [G] and [D] talking with his hands.
[G] But black [D] clouds are coming in and no one [E] understands.
[D] That somebody's [A] true [D] religion's always someone [G] else's joke.
And that's how Tulsa's last magician pretty much went up [D] in smoke.
So friend if you're the kind that thinks no one [G] quite gets quite what you [D] are.
Like you're a cobbler or a mechanic in [A] this age of flying cars.
[Bm] If you think that you [A] see [E] right [D] behind what's right before [G] our eyes.
You might be a small town's last magician [D] in disguise.
And we need you to be funny.
[G] Please be good [D] at sleight of hand.
[G] Cuz there's a grand [D] finale we [F#m] can't [D] hope to [A] understand.
And [Bm] there's a one in [A] 52 [D] chance it's real [G] magic and it's true.
So [D] won't you please help us [G] believe [D] in you.

Thanks, Chads.
[G#m]
It's like not appropriate.
It's not on purpose, I swear.
It just feels nice.
