So a friend of mine asked me what the difference between a six string and a 12 string guitar was and I tried to explain
to him the difference but realized as I was explaining that
That just explaining it doesn't do [E] justice.
You have to actually hear the difference to really get it
And so this is video to explain the difference between a six [Eb] string and a 12 string guitar
Aside from the obvious difference that a 12 string guitar has double the strings [E] that a six string guitar has
The main difference is in the tuning and [C] the sound [Bb] and so
[N] this is my trusty Fender six string guitar right and
It's tuned normally [E] and you've got your E [A] a [D] D
[G] G [Em] B and E strings, right?
[E] Okay, so that's tuned normally
And here is my 12 string up a phone and I'll show you how [Bb] that's tuned.
So it's got
Two sets of [Bm] two two strings for each
For each string basically and [E] they're set they're tuned an octave apart.
So you've got your E string here the high E and
a low E
High E low E played together.
Okay, [A] a high a
low a
D [D] high E
low D
[G] G
high G
low G
The last two sets of strings the B and the E are tuned without an octave difference.
So [E] they're tuned
[B] That's the B.
Both strings are tuned to the same
Frequency both are [E] B's and the E's are
[Em] not an octave apart.
[F] Okay, so there's two sets of
That's [Em] a 12 string guitar and it's tuning and then let me play a bit of a song
On each so you can hear the difference in what they [Bm] sound like
[C] [Em]
[C] [Em] [C]
[Em] [G] [A]
[C] [Em]
[Am] [Em]
[Am] [Em] [Am] [Em]
[G] [Em]
[G] You
That's the sixth string and the same song on the [E] 12 string
[C]
[C] [D] [C]
[G] [A]
[D] [C]
[Em]
[D] [Em]
[Am]
[Em] [Am] [Em] So [Am]
[Em] [G] [Gbm] [Em] [E] as you can hear the [Em] 12 string is a much brighter fuller [A] sound
than the sixth string [B] and
The other difference is it's harder to play double the strings more more
Pressure on your fingers to press down the strings so between a six
to him the difference but realized as I was explaining that
That just explaining it doesn't do [E] justice.

[C]
