Start Jamming...
Left the band after the Disaster album and I went off on a solo venture and I had some success with it.
Solo you couldn't hear it.
I had some success with it but you know Hatchet did two albums in between the time that I was gone.
And we just decided to put it back together you know it was working real good so.
You are pretty much the background of Molly Hatchet or were at that time with your vocal style and your whole stage presence.
And that really made up Molly Hatchet as well as the three guitar attack which was different.
It's really kind of like an old southern barbecue sauce you take one or two ingredients out of it and it doesn't come up tasting the same.
[B] Okay.
And you know we feel comfortable again we got [N] some new members in the band Barry and Riff and everybody is excited you know we are having a good time.
The album is kicking in across the country.
I know I'm excited.
Yeah you are always excited.
You excited.
Okay Dave as far as the fill in at that time when Danny Joe went off to do a solo thing and of course Jimmy Farr came on in to take over as lead.
Were there any was there a hesitation there as far as keeping the name Molly Hatchet and going out there and trying to do it.
Toward the end of the second album with Jimmy on it doing the lead vocals taking the presence that we might have to change a name.
Yeah.
Times were getting a little lean.
We were getting a little thin in the skin you know.
Everybody but Jimmy.
You know not that Jimmy if you listen to Jimmy you know come on we got to eat you got it certainly did.
But what's happening is we we still like Jimmy he's a good old Georgia boy but the thing was it might have been different if he'd started with us from the first album on.
Yeah.
But I don't know it was.
True mother.
Did you find.
It just didn't happen.
The audience just couldn't accept Jimmy versus what Danny Joe was putting out.
We turned our band off like you turn off these stage lights.
I mean a little bit faster to at least like electricity [E] lingers around a little bit.
Our audience they fled [Bm] in the night.
And that's why we're here begging you to do this interview.
[N] We we've always felt like we could get on stage with just about anybody.
I mean we've never been shy at all.
No not shy.
And it wound up that we that we had very good direction from a management company and we got put with tours that were compatible.
You know we did a lot of shows with the outlaws.
We went out with R.E.S. Speedwagon and our music could you know we even did a lot of shows that worked out well with English group.
Bob Seger.
Yeah.
Well you know like UFO even.
Yeah.
We and then the situations would come around and we could play with Charlie or we could play with Blackfoot or 38.
Or AC DC.
And the things just worked out good you know.
The album speaks for itself.
We went out and we had good tours and it was a pretty it was a snap.
It was a long snap.
We were out nine months that year.
[G] Who comes up with the titles for the albums as far as.
[Bm] The concept really comes from every place.
Yeah.
You [N] know.
It's just interesting because as you read through them of course the first one says it all Molly Hatchet and then you go to flirting with disaster right after that first album.
It's almost like you're saying well let's try it again and then you go to number three beating the odds.
All right.
And then.
Each time you put one out man you try it again.
Yeah.
But it's just interesting how these titles all flow together and then you've got this one right here.
No prison which is take no prisoners and then the latest.
That's the one I like that cover there.
That was sporty.
That cover was interesting.
I must admit.
So we'll never look that good in our whole life.
Now.
But I said hey they went on some crazy dives to get.
No beer and nothing you know just straight out workout.
The rent on that on that lizard alone [Bm] was.
And then you get to [Gbm] this album right here which is the newest ones there a lot of light [B] on.
OK.
No guts no glory.
[Dm] [Am] [B]
[A] [B] [G]
[N] No [G] problem.
The only problem would have been would be getting us back on the next day.
Triple guitar work.
How the egos fair in that.
Obviously it doesn't really affect you.
What other two guitars.
What egos.
[Ab] What other two guitars.
There's two of them.
[G] I'm not going to tell you guys now.
We have a good time.
It works real good [E] for us.
You know the problem you know the thing about I think that has something to do with there not being any problem that is because each one of these guys play so different anyway.
Until it comes time you know to settle down and everybody do a three part harmony.
This guy you know [N] chunks this guy is Mr.
Smooth and that there's a blizzard over there so it just kind of goes together.
Really.
I'm not going to play on words.
It's snowing here in Jacksonville.
Some of the other groups out of Jacksonville have had lead vocalists and they've let other members of the band [E] pick up on on some leads once in a while on a few songs just add a little [B] diversification to the sound.
Is there any any of that down the road as far as or is it basically going to be you and then harmonies back [N] up on the.
I don't know.
We're bringing [Ab] in the meaning of the [N] solo album.
When I left Molly Hatchet after flirting and the keyboard player that was in my band and is going to is going to be joining Molly Hatchet in the very near future.
John Galvin from Detroit and John the singer.
Dave's even singing a little bit on it and then they show you know so I've got me some backup for a long time.
Particularly at the beginning as being a rather rough house type of group.
Well that's what the press releases said guys.
That's what the press releases said.
You got a great PR guy or we've given our share of the auction we've taken.
No big deal.
Yeah.
OK.
So what I'm getting at is has it toned down somewhat from from maybe what it was with the I'm down from two to one quarter Jack a week.
You know it's no big deal.
OK.
New album Molly Hatchet.
No guts no glory.
And they are back.
Danny Joe Brown Dave Lubeck Dwayne Rowland new drummer BB Borden right riff West new bass player and Steve Holland all of Molly Hatchet.
Thanks a lot.
You better
