As an 18 year old kid, wanting more than anything to be a session player.
[C] I wanted to play on people's records.
I wanted to just be [N] part of the community.
I wanted to do a part.
[Eb] And I did.
And I had the greatest [Db] time doing it.
I still have the greatest time doing it.
[Ebm] I have no idea who's going to [C] call me next and ask me to play or sing on a record.
Last year, I got a [N] call from Alice Collins.
I got a call from Chris Bowie, a great jazz trumpet player.
[Eb] I got a call from Barbra Streisand.
[N]
And I never thought any of [B] those [G] things would ever happen to me.
And
[B] since I turned 50, I've been having the [C] greatest stretch of my life [Eb]
of being creative and having fun.
I think the pressure of worrying about having a hit record and getting it on the radio and [Gb] chasing the charts and [Eb] Stacey Kineon.
[N]
And anyway, I just, I think my mind is clear to do things that I love.
And what you've heard tonight so far is [Gb] a [Db] really beautiful, [C] elegant statement about how beautiful traditional [N] music is.
I'll do a stick up.
[C]
I [N] don't think there's anybody doing whatever the hell they [Cm] want to do.
[B] [C]
[N] Recently, I came up with this idea.
I've worked, like I said, with hundreds and hundreds and hundreds [Eb] and hundreds of artists over my career.
And I had the idea to do a [Db] duet record, a whole duet record.
And I think [B] most people would think I would have chosen a [C] singer [Ab] to do a duet [N] record with.
But I thought like a musician, like I spoke before.
And what I wanted to do was play music with someone who I believed was one of the most gifted [Eb] musicians on the [B] instrument that he played that I've ever heard in my [N] life.
I'm still filled with him.
We've been friends for about 35 [Db] years.
And
[Eb] anyway, we came up with the idea to do a [E] duet record, but not an instrumental record.
[Db]
And I said, hey, let's sing a little duet.
[Eb] He said, well, that could be [E] good.
So [Ebm] I did instrumental records, but [E] [Eb] it's like [C] doing a duet since they're [N] about a half of what it's good.
And I love stories and I love songs.
But what I love more than anything is
[G] honoring people [C] that inspire me.
[Eb] And I came up with the [N] idea to try to do a record of half Buck Owen songs and half Merle Haggard songs.
Who I chose to make my first official duet record with is one of the greatest guys in the whole world, Mr.
Paul Franklin.
Buck Owen songs and our favorite Merle Haggard.
[Eb] [B]
I'm going to post on some [Em] of that stuff for you.
[C] This is our main voice.
The [B] record's almost [Em] finished and we just thought we'd give [C] you a taste of what's coming.
This is a Buck Owen classic [N] called Foolin' Around.

While he's

foolin' I wish the [C] night
I was foolish [E] takin' all [F] this misery
[Gb] [G] But it's you the fool I've [C] always been
Know that you can fool me well
Don't be [G] right from the start
