Hello Cleveland Grounds, I'm Dream Guerrero and welcome to another whiteboard request.
This time we are teaching you Tennessee Whiskey.
So Tennessee Whiskey, classic tune.
This was originally done by David Allen Coe, but this time we're doing the version by Chris Stapleton.
Alright, so nice and simple.
We got a couple chords for you folks, so let's get started.
So right off the bat, the couple chords we're going to show you are A and B minor 7.
So first off, A, middle finger G string second fret, pointer finger C string, first fret
for your [A] A chord.
Alright, next up is a B minor 7, pointer finger is going to be barring the second fret.
[Bm]
[A] Alright, so nice and simple.
Our strumming pattern is going to be a nice down, up, chunk, up, down, alright?
And if we do it over and over, it's going to sound like down, up, chunk, up, down, down,
up, chunk, up, down, down, up, chunk, up, down, down.
Alright, so you can play the chunk, but you can also substitute a down strum in there,
but if you want that authentic feel, I would suggest adding that chunk because it adds
a lot of feeling to it.
So this is kind of bluesy country song.
So the strumming pattern is going to be down, up, chunk, up, down, down, chunk, up, down,
down, up, chunk, up, down, down, alright?
So it's got a nice feeling with that chunk in it.
So okay, then we go [Bm] to B minor 7, down, up, chunk, up, down, down, up, chunk, up, down,
down, up, chunk, up, down, down.
Let's go back to A.
[C]
[A] Alright, so that's basically the whole song.
It's A, then B minor, back to A.
It's all about how you sing it, it's about how you
play it, so it doesn't matter if you have two chords in this song, what's going to really
matter is the amount of emotion that you're putting in those words and the way that you
play it, the way that you chunk, and you know, just the phrasing in general, alright?
That's what's going to create that nice, bluesy country sound.
Okay, let's move on.
So, the picking pattern sounds like this.
[F#m] [F#]
[C#]
[F#]
Woo, alright.
So first off, we're going to start off with your C string 4th fret, then 6th fret, then
E string 5th fret, [B] play 7th fret, slide over to the 9th [F#m] fret, so it sounds like this.
And you're going to notice I'm moving my fingers around like this, and that's what's going
to give me that feel, alright?
So [C#] I'm going [F#] to give it a nice vibrato.
[Em] [F#m] [C#] [F#m] [C#]
[F#] And then the next line, I'm going to play 7th fret on the E [F] string, slide [E] up to the
9th fret, slide back down.
[Am] Okay, play E string 5th fret, [E] then play that same line again, 7th fret, slide up to the
9th fret, back to the 10th fret.
So far I have.
[F#m]
[C#]
Then I'm going to play E string 7th fret, slide up to the 9th fret twice, so.
[F#]
And I'm still doing this nice vibrato to give it a nice feel.
[C#] And then I'm going to do it a third time, but this time I'm going to slide back to the
7th, so it sounds like this.
Okay?
So from there you're going to play E string 7th fret one more time, slide up to the 9th
fret, [F#]
back down to the 7th, and then E string 5th.
[C#] So it sounds like this.
[B] [F#m]
So we got.
[C#]
[F#]
[E] And it's up to you to add all the emotion in there.
You can do vibrato, which is left and right, I'm just kind of moving my fingers left and right.
You can also do a little bit of mini bends and just bend it up and down like so.
So it sounds [F#m] like, [C#] [F#] [C#] [F#]
[C#]
[F#m] to add more of that emotion to that country blues sound.
Okay?
So that's it for you folks.
We got that strumming pattern, we got your nice chord pattern, nice and simple, and also
this intro picking that's going to bring the blues out of you.
Alright?
So that's it for Chris Stapleton's version of Tennessee Whiskey.
This is Aldrine Guerrero.
