Tom Petty - Walls - Guitar Tutorial (THIS ONE IS A FUN ONE!) chords
Start Jamming...
[F] Some days are diamonds, [Dm] some days are rocks.
[Bb] Some doors are open, [A] [C] some roads are blocked.
[F] Some downs are golden [Dm] and fade away.
[Bb] But if I never do nothing, [A] [C] I'll get you back someday.
Cause you [Bb] got a heart so [F] big, [Bb] we could crush [F] this town.
And I [G] can't fall down [Dm] forever, even [C] walk to the palm [F] of your hand.
[N] This is the guitar lesson for Tom Petty's Walls from Guitar Made Easy.com.
First thing you want to do is make sure that your guitar is in standard E tuning.
[E] Now, I already know there's a ton of different versions for this song in terms of original recordings.
There's a live version, there's an album version.
This version is actually played on piano.
So [G] Tom's basically just mashing down the chords really [Ab] hard.
And all I did was transpose the same chords to guitar, and that's the song.
This song is a ton of fun to play along with.
It's a ton of fun to sing, or to [N] try to sing at least, if you're like me.
The song starts off like this.
It's an F chord, and he basically just does down strokes on the F.
[F] So this is the intro.
[Ab] Pretty easy, huh?
Just a bunch of down strokes on F.
Now when the lyrics come along, or when Tom Petty starts to sing, it goes like this.
It goes [F] F.
Some days are diamonds.
[A] D [Dm] minor.
Some days are rocks.
[N] Bb, which is your pointer finger on the first fret A string, ring finger on the third fret D string,
and pinky on the third fret [Bb] G string.
Everything else doesn't ring.
Just these three strings.
That's Bb.
Some doors are open.
[C] Now C.
Some roads are blocked.
[B] That's half the song right there.
That's the chord progression for the verse.
You [G] play it one more time, and then [Eb] it goes into the chorus.
So once again, that chord [F] progression is F, [Dm] D minor, [Bb] Bb, [C] C.
[Ab] The chorus is the part that goes,
[Gb] "'Cause you've got a heart so big."
[Eb] And that goes like this.
"'Cause you've got a [Bb] heart," Bb,
"'So [F] F, it could be [Bb] flat."
"'Crush [F] this town F, and I can't--"'
[B] To G minor.
[Gm] "'Hold out more ever," which [Dm] is D minor.
"'Even [B] walls, [C] I'm sorry, C, fall [F] down to F.'". [G] The chord progression for that, if I were to spell it out for [Bb] you really easily, is this. [G] Bb, [F] [Bb] Bb, [F] then it [Gm] goes D minor, [Dm] D minor, [C] C. [F] [G] That G minor is kind of a tricky chord. You bar the entire third fret with your pointer finger, ring finger on the fifth fret A string, pinky on the fifth fret D [Gm] string, and you strum all six strings. It should sound like that. [G] "'Hold [Dm] out more ever, [G] even [C] walls fall [F] down.'" [N] That's the entire song. All it is is a verse and a chorus. Take the parts that I showed you and piece them where they go, and you'll do just fine. You'll sound just like Tom. All right, guys, subscribe to my channel. Follow me on Twitter.
