When you're on tour, you seem to be living in suspended time.
It's very weird.
You're at home, [G] you live your ordinary life in the North,
and you do nothing but travelling.
And the brightest parts are when you're actually singing,
or when you're talking about singing.
[Fm] Meeting people is very nice as [G] well, or we're interested in finding songs, etc.
We're never really sure about where we're going to stay when we go out on tour.
If we're doing a big concert, we get put up by the organiser of the concert in a hotel,
or a boarding house.
But if it's a club, we stay with the club organiser or friends.
But it's not always possible, so we carry a mattress and blankets and sleeping bags
and stuff in the van, just to sort of lighten their burden.
[A]
[E] A North country [C] made [G] up to London has strayed
[Am] Although [A] with our nature it [E] did not agree
And [Em] she's wept [G] and she sighed
And she's wrung her hands and [E]
cried
How [Am] I wish once [E] again in [Am] the North [G] I could [A]
be
[G] Where the oak and the ash and the bonny ivy [E] tree
All flourish and bloom in [Am] my North [A] country
How sadly [C] I [G] romance, lamence, my dear home
Where [E] love and laughter are making way
Where [G] the bells they do [C] ring [G] and the little birds they [E]
sing
And [A] the maidens and [E] meadows are pleasant and [Am]
gay
Where the [Em]
[G] oak and the ash and the bonny ivy [E] tree
All [A]
flourish [E] and bloom in [B] my North country
[Am] Well I bet if I [C] pleased [G] I could marry with ease
For [Am]
where bonny lassies are,
[E] lovers will come
[Em] But the lad that [G] I wed must be North [A] country [E] bred
And must [Am]
carry me [E] back to [Am] my North [G] country home
Where [Em] the oak and the ash [E] and the bonny ivy tree
All flourish [E] and bloom in my [A] North [G]
[Am] country
[N]
[C#] You've got [D] to move fast to keep [G] up with the times
For [Fm] these days a man [D] cannot ponder
There's a violin to say you must be on your way
And another to say you can't wander
Farewell to the saints and the old caravan
To the tinker, the gypsy, the travelling man
Farewell to the thirty foot trailer
