This is a song called May This Be Love and it's also April 67 and it shows a different
side of Jimmy.
This is more of his ballad writing.
It's a softer tone.
The Marshall lamp is turned down and Chaz was pretty insistent upon that and he would
often get into a battle with Jimmy about Jimmy wanted it up louder and of course Chaz would
say no, no, you've got to keep it down.
You know, it's a ballad.
You've got to keep it nice and mellow and stuff.
And Jimmy would eventually say yeah, alright.
Chaz brought a certain amount of security at the time.
Along with that, you know, it's really that [Bb] yin yang thing.
Especially with someone like Jimmy.
[Eb]
[Bm] There's an insecurity [Bb] as well.
You know, [Eb] it's great to have someone you can bounce off.
This is the drum track [F] with Mitch playing a lot of rolling toms and there's [Eb] a wonderful
little thing called a ching-a-ring which is on top of his hi-hat to give that little
bell-like sound.
Once again we had to create the sound [C]
right then and there.
The toms are [Ab] compressed.
[Bbm] Drums are all in mono unfortunately [Eb] but I think they still sound pretty darn [Eb] good.
Any input I had, any ideas I had were encouraged by Jimmy and by Chaz to a certain degree.
And here's a solo.
It's [Ab] complete with [Bb] all the [Eb] delays, all the [F] EQ.
[Eb]
You can hear what a beautiful tone he's managed to create and that is turning down either
on the [F] guitar itself or on the amp.
More than likely the amp will be actually up quite high but he'll turn down on the guitar
volume itself to get that lovely [Eb] tone.
But that's got all the reverb and delays that I've managed to create around that sound.
[F]
Chaz always said to us like, if you're recording it's basically going to work.
So you go to [Ab] work at two o'clock in the afternoon, you work until eight at night and it costs that much.
Thank you very much.
And try and keep to a [F] budget.
I think the first album only cost about £1500 [Bb] or something, you know.
Was done in [Gb] ten days.
