When I first wrote this song, I gave it to Jake Hayes of the Gaither Homecoming People.
And he [Eb] recorded it and it went around the world because it fits everybody.
It's not just a song that fits me.
I thought when I first wrote it that the Lord would give me a song just for me.
But this fits everybody.
And when I get to your birth, I want you to raise your hand real high so I can feel you.
Now I know some of you, the name of this song is [E] Wore Out.
And [Eb] some of you folks don't want your neighbor to know you're wore out so you don't [F] want to raise your hand.
That'll be fine.
I understand.
But I tell [Eb] you what I want you to do if you're that type of person, you don't want to be [Ab] numb.
You don't want to raise your hand.
That's fine.
[Eb] Just look at somebody you think that fits that verse and point toward them.
[B] It goes this way.
Wait a minute, I've got to say this.
[Ebm] One more person did it and you [Eb] probably heard him.
Porter Wagner [Bbm] from Nashville, Tennessee.
[B] Two weeks [Eb] before he passed away, he released this on a brand new CD.
And it was doing great for him and then he passed [Db] away.
I don't know if I was [D] sane.
[Eb] Wore [D] Out, it goes like this.
You come home at night, sit down [A] for a bite and you're wore out.
You're hardly able to get up from the table, [D] all you wore out.
You crawl into bed, sleep like you did, [G] cause you're wore out.
[A] In the morning you wake up, you can't seem to get up [D] cause you're wore out.
[G] But when you get to heaven, Lord, it seems the sight of him.
[D] Ten million years and still fresh as the spring.
[A] Will you have me and free, and our bodies won't be.
[D] Wore out.
Now this verse fits more ladies I believe than does men.
You get up on Sunday, you're dreaming to see Monday, [A] cause you're wore out.
You go sit in the church and your back starts to hurt cause [D] it's wore out.
Don't I fit so much?
The choir starts to sing and you can't feel a thing [G] cause you're wore out.
You [A] practice sermon and song, it won't last too long [D] cause you're wore out.
What are you being like today?
This is your verse.
You go out for a drive in the car with your wife and [A] it's wore out.
That's hard that is.
She starts to worry, tells you not to hurry, [E] this car is wore out.
[D] You don't know where you're at, the old car has the old clad [G] houses wore out.
[A] From the sound of the motor, you'll soon have to tell [D] her no she's wore out.
[G] But when you get to heaven, when Jesus I believe, [D] we won't have to worry.
How many things will be happy and free?
Nothing there will [Db] ever be.
[D] Wore out.
Little City close [A] to Nashville, Tennessee [Eb] back in April.
Now I'll never forget this cause it was a great honor for the Easter Brothers.
This never [Bb] happened to us before.
[Gb] But they wanted [Eb] to honor us, the Easter [Db] Brothers, for over 60 years of writing gospel music and singing.
[B]
And so many people had recorded our [A] songs.
David Vincent and people like Karen Peck, the Freemans, [Gb]
you name them, the [Db] big people.
And all of them were there.
And what an [A] honor it was too.
[D] They let us [A] sit on the front row and they sung our songs back to [Eb] us that we had written.
And they wrote them and recorded them.
And one of the most honored [Gb] songs that I felt [Db] so good, I was sitting down on the front row
and my favorite [Gb] two people, I guess the singers, was David Vincent.
They're good Christian people that love the Lord.
And [Db] they sung this song that we had written a few years back.
And they did a great job.
And we just got to sit there and listen to it.
[A] Hear the band.
Come along.
[E]
[A] I keep watching for the dawning of [E] tomorrow
When [A] we'll meet our blessed Savior [E] in the sky
And [A] all of the troubles of today will then be over
[Gb] For God [A] will wipe [E] all the tear drops [A] from our eyes
We're here today, we'll be gone [E] tomorrow
And [A] despite it all, they will be a [E] memory
We're here [A] today, we'll be gone [E] tomorrow
Where [A] we'll pray to the Lord [E] throughout [A] eternity
[E] [A]
Today we're getting ready for that final [E] journey
And [A] I'm making plans to build my [E] new home
Soon [A] those eastern skies will bloom with flowers of [E] glory
And at the sounding of the trumpet we'll be [A] gone
We're here today, we'll be gone [E] tomorrow
And [A] despite it all, they will be a [E] memory
We're here [A] today, we'll be gone [E] tomorrow
Where [A] we'll pray to the Lord [E] throughout [A] eternity
We'll just praise the Lord [E] throughout eternity
