[F#] [D] You know, Sunday Morning Record from the band of [G] heathens showcases the Austin-based outfit's
stellar songwriting and musicianship.
For example, the song Shotgun [Dm]
features [D] dramatic tempo changes.
Band leaders Gordie Quist and Ed Jurdy explain why they took this approach [A] when they arranged it.
The song [G] Shotgun was a song that Ed and I wrote together.
Actually [D] we started it maybe a couple [Dm] years ago and it's kind of just slowly been [D] coming
together and we [Dm] felt like it fit pretty well with the other songs on the record thematically.
It's a little different from anything we've done in that it has [Dm] a little time change in
the middle of it.
It's also probably one of the first times that we kind of [G] experimented with doing some unison singing.
So, you know, the band's always kind of had a lot of harmony and kind of three-part [D] stuff
but we never really [D] had a lot of close unison singing or close harmony singing so this has
been kind of [A] cool in terms of, actually now everyone in the band sings too so [G] it's like
we're able to kind of, there's more voices, you know, [D] there's kind of guys singing by
themselves, there's unison singing, there's two-part harmony, there's three-part harmony,
four-part harmony so I always really like to kind of push the vocal thing and really
kind of expand.
That's just something that resonates, you know.
When a bunch of people are singing together in a room, [F#] the vibration of that is pretty strong.

[E]
I heard that you were talking about me.
Heard you had a smile on your face while [F#m] you cried, cried, cried.
[E] Everybody's walking around here.
But I just had to laugh at the truth in [F#m] your lies, lies, lies.
[A] Play [B] your part, know your [E] lines.
[A]
If they [E] ask, we'll both say [F#m] yeah, we're [B] doing fine.
[E] Hearing out your dirty laundry.
Hanging all your so-called friends [F#m] out to dry, dry, dry.
[E] Say you want your independence.
Three years gone, so hard [F#m] to find, find, [F#] find.
[A] What goes [B] up comes [E] around.
[B] [A] It's so [G#m] hard to get your [F#m] feet off the [B]
ground.
[B] [E] You [A] came crashing through [E] the window.
[A] And it gave [B] away so [E] fast.

Riding [B] shotgun through the [C#] fast.
