Hi, Mick here for Guitarist with a look at the Big Baby Taylor E.
This is [C#m] an updated
model for 2015.
OK, [Am] so to put the Big Baby [E] in context, the smallest guitar Taylor makes is the Baby Taylor,
the next one up is the GS [C#m] Mini, the next one up is this.
[E] It's 15 [A] sixteenths the size of [E] a full-size Dreadnought and [F#m] if you don't want to do the
maths, that means it's 15 inches across the lower back there [E] instead of 16, which would
be a full-size Dreadnought.
It's also a little bit slimmer.
[F#m]
Why would you want that?
Well, you might think about it as a travel [E] guitar, I'm not so sure because it's [Em] pretty
much full length.
It's just a bit easier to manage [C#m] than a full-size Dreadnought with a slightly [Em] smaller body there.
Some people [A] find Dreadnoughts a bit bulky.
[E] But the real [Em] point is it's Taylor's most [C#m] affordable, least expensive, [A] most affordable [E] full-scale
guitar, so you get a full 25 [F#m] and a half inch scale length.
As befits the most affordable [C] full [E]-scale Taylor guitar, it is rudimentary.
I mean, 15 years ago when this model was first introduced, we [G] all kind of [C] gasped a bit.
No body binding whatsoever, a kind of rudimentary neck [C#] joint here [C] with no heel that you would
[C#] imagine and two very visible [B] screws [C#] holding the neck on there right through the front
of the [F#] fingerboard.
But that's not to say it's built badly, quite the opposite.
Taylor doesn't do anything badly.
It's brilliantly well [B] designed, [F#] expertly well conceived, [C#]
and as such, they've [B] just cut every
possible corner they [C#] can [B] in saving [C#] money in the build to [B] keep the eventual retail price down.
[F#] In terms of [B] materials, the body here is a [F#m] three-piece [C#] laminate.
Taylor [B] calls it layered because it's three [C#] pieces [B] of sapeli and [C#] poplar.
The [B] top is solid [C] spruce, lovely [C#] wide grain there which looks [Bm] a bit like Adirondack but
I [C#] guarantee that it [B] isn't.
[F#] Ebony bridge and [B] fingerboard and a [C#] mahogany neck.
New for 2015 are the Taylor [D] ES-2 electronics [E]
which as you can see are three [Bm] sensors there
behind the [A] bridge, not underneath it.
[D] This was the major update to the ES system last year [B] and boy was it an improvement.
[C#m] So I'm going to play the guitar, I'm [Bm] going to strum a bit, I'm going to pick a bit [A] and
we've got it plugged in so [F#] captions will come up on screen to let you know what [D] you're hearing
I have [C#] to say, [C#m] for a [Bm] cost-effective guitar I wasn't [A] expecting much but this guitar has
been really [E] inspiring to play today.
Yeah, good job Taylor.
