Summer Breeze Guitar Tutorial By The Isley Brothers chords
Start Jamming...
As it's the middle of winter, I thought I'd do Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers.
So, we start off with this little [C] lick.
[N] So I'm just muting on the bridge, and then on the open E string.
So [Em] open, three, [A] five.
[F#] And the chords at the [Am] start of the song are A minor.
[F] [F#]
[Am] [F]
[A] Of course you can play that [F]
[A] [F] [G#m] however you play an F chord and an A minor chord.
But those are the two chords at the start of the [C] song, while that little lick is going on.
[N] And then we have the little fuzz lick coming in, which I shall show you now.
Then we have this lick come [C] in.
[D] [A]
[F#] [N] So, got some fuzz on, and we've got seven, five, eight, five, seven, [D] five.
And we're going to hammer and pull off four, [G#m] five, four.
[C#] And that's on the [G#] G string.
[G] [A]
[C] [D] [C] [B] [N]
Seven, [G] five.
[Am] [C#] [A#] And then slide back up to seven, so slowly.
[A] [C] [G]
[E] [D] [C]
[B] [F]
[G] [A] [N]
And the chords that go behind that fuzz lick are A minor.
[Am] [F]
[G] [C] [F]
[C] So again, [Am] A minor.
[Fm]
[C] [F] [C#] Then it's back into [Am] A minor.
[F]
[N]
So the chorus goes [F] F, [Em] E minor,
[C#] [F] F,
[N] D [Dm] minor, [C] C.
And we're going to stay on that C chord while [N] this fuzz riff comes in over the top.
[G] [F]
[C] [N] So we have on the G string, nine, ten, twelve, ten.
Nine, ten, nine, [E] hammer and pull off.
[C]
[F] And ten on the D string.
So one more [E] time.
[Fm]
[G] [Fm] [C]
[N] The second half of the chorus, very similar to the [F] first.
So F, E [Em] minor,
[F#] [F] F, [Dm]
[C] C.
[E] And then we're going to come up to the [D] D [F#] before we go into the verse.
So for the first verse, we [A] have A, [C] C, [G] G, [D] D.
[A] We're going to play A to C.
[C]
And that's just kind of like a bridge in the actual verse.
[A] Then we're back to A, [C] C,
[G] G, [D] D.
And then we [A] hold on that A.
[N] So the second verse goes like this.
[Am] A minor, [F] F, A [Am] minor, [Fm]
A [Am] minor,
[F] [F#] A [Am] minor,
[F] F.
Stay on the F.
[B] Then we're going to go through an [Em] E minor,
[F#] [F] F,
[C] C.
[F] And then up [D] to the D.
[N] And then verse three is the same as verse one, which is the A [A] major.
[C]
[G#] C, [G] G, D.
[D]
[A] [C] Then [A] back to A.
[C] [G]
[D] [G#] And then on the [A] A.
Stay on that.
[N]
Then we have another chorus.
And then we have some more fuzz action.
Then we have this fuzz [C] riff.
[D]
[Cm] [A] [D]
[B] [F#m] [N]
On the original, he's got a whammy bar and he's dipping it there.
But I haven't got a bar, so I'm doing it without.
So very similar to what we did earlier.
So that's 7, 5, [G#] 8, 5, [Bm] 7, [C] 5, [B]
4, 5, 4, [A] 5.
[N] [G] [A] [N]
That's 7.
Then we're going to add [D] in this bit.
[A#] So we've got [Fm] hammer from 5 to 7 on the G string.
[B] [C#] [B]
[F#m] [Fm] And you repeat that, so you play that [G] twice.
[A] Then [C]
[E] [D] [C]
[B] [A] [G] [A]
[D]
[B] [A]
[G#] we have the [A] solo.
[G#] And the solo goes on for quite a long time.
So I'm not going to do the whole lot.
But I'll show you how it starts and I'll show you some of the licks in there.
And I'll show you the scale that it's in.
So it's in an A minor pentatonic.
But [A#] we're not playing it here, we're playing it up [N] here.
So the pattern would be 12 to 15.
And again, 12, 15.
12, 14.
12, 14.
13, 15.
12, 15.
And then we've got this note here on the 17th which we're going to bend up to and we're going to bend from.
So it starts off here.
[Fm]
[E] [F]
[A#] [Fm] [Am] [N]
[D]
And again that's all just using that scale.
[Am]
[N] So then we're going to come up here.
Which is bending from 15 up to 17.
So there's some of that going on in there.
Then we've got some bending which is a minor third bend.
We're going to bend from this fret here up to the C.
[Cm]
[G] [N] So there's some of that in there.
And we've got a little bit [C] of [A#]
[E] which is 10, 8.
[C]
[C#] [C] [Fm]
So there's loads of cool licks in there.
I'm not going to try and work out every one because it would take me a long time.
But have fun with [Cm] that scale [G] and [N]
enjoy playing the song.

[G] _ [A] _ _
[C] _ _ _ [D] _ [C] _ _ [B] _ [N] _

_ _ [Am] _ _ [F] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ [C] _ _ [F] _ _ _ _
[C] So again, [Am] A minor.
_ [Fm] _ _ _
_ [C] _ _ [F] _ _ [C#] Then it's back into [Am] A minor.
_ _ _ _ [F] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [N] _
_ So the chorus goes [F] F, _ _ _ _ _ [Em] E minor, _
_ _ _ _ [C#] [F] F, _ _
[N] _ D [Dm] minor, _ _ [C] C.
_ _ _ And we're going to stay on that C chord _ while _ _ _ [N] this fuzz riff comes in over the top.
_ [G] _ _ [F] _ _

_ _ _ [C] C. _ _ _
_ _ [E] And then we're going to come up to the [D] D _ _ _ [F#] before we go into the verse.
So for the first verse, we [A] have A, _ [C] C, _ _ [G] G, _ [D] D. _
[A] We're going to play A to C.
_ [C] _ _
And that's just kind of like a bridge in the actual verse.
[A] Then we're back to A, _ [C] C, _ _
[G] G, _ [D] D.
_ And then we [A] hold on that A. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [N] _ So the second verse goes like this.
[Am] A minor, _ _ [F] _ F, _ _ _ A [Am] minor, _ [Fm] _
_ _ _ _ A [Am] minor, _
[F] _ _ _ _ [F#] A [Am] minor, _
[F] F.
_ _ Stay on the F. _
_ _ [B] Then we're going to go through an [Em] E minor, _ _
_ _ [F#] _ _ [F] F, _ _
_ [C] _ C. _ _ _
[F] And then up [D] to the D. _ _ _ _ _
[N] _ And then verse three is the same as verse one, which is the A _ [A] major.
_ [C] _ _
[G#] C, [G] G, D.
_ [D] _ _ _
[A] _ _ [C] Then _ _ [A] back to A.
_ [C] _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ [G#] And then on the [A] A.
Stay on that.
_ _ _ _ _ _ [N]
Then we have another chorus.
And then we have some more fuzz action.
Then we have this fuzz [C] riff.
_ _ _ [D] _
_ [Cm] _ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ [F#m] _ _ _ [N] _
On the original, he's got a whammy bar and he's dipping it there.
But I haven't got a bar, so I'm doing it without.
So very similar to what we did earlier.
So that's 7, _ 5, _ [G#] 8, 5, _ _ [Bm] _ 7, _ [C] 5, _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ 4, 5, 4, _ _ [A] 5.
[N] _ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ _ _ [N]
That's 7.
Then we're going to add [D] in this bit. _ _ _
[A#] _ So we've got [Fm] hammer from 5 to 7 on the G string.
_ [B] _ _ [C#] _ _ [B] _
_ [F#m] _ _ _ _ [Fm] And you repeat that, so you play that [G] twice.

[E] which is 10, 8.
