[Fm] Sex, drugs and rock and roll may be the calling card of many a [Ab] rock musician,
but Christian metal band Striper had different goals.
I made the decision to go out [Db] and make a stand for something [Eb] different.
And, you know, [C] to run from the [Db] temptations instead of run [Eb] to the temptations.
[Ab] Originally a generic metal outfit called [Fm] Rock's Regime,
the band, brothers [Db] Michael and Robert Sweet,
Oz Falk [Gb] and Tim Gaines became [Eb] Born Again in 1983 and Chained Fear [Ab] 2.
Striper is an acronym for
[Bb] Salvation through [F] redemption, yielding peace, [Ab] encouragement and righteousness.
[Eb] And then [Ab] if you ever saw the name [Bb] Striper, you always saw Isaiah 55.
[Gm] By his stripes, his [Db] lashings that he took, we are healed.
[Eb] Even a Christian metal band needs an image.
Boys and Striper [B] decided that dressing like glam rock [Db] bumblebees was just the ticket.
[Bb] They couldn't find anything yellow and black at the time,
so we bought white and black and dyed [Ab] them yellow.
Though Striper refrained from the evils [F] of booze and pills,
the band shared a vice common among their heavy [Ab] metal peers, hairspray.
[F] Practically a can in [Bb] each hand, you know,
[F] and just every five minutes going [Db] back and putting more on.
It was unbelievable and it was Aquanet, [Eb] extra super hold of course.
Instead of guitar picks [B] or T-shirts,
these rockers for [Db] Jesus pelted their audience with a different [Bb] kind of memento, [Eb] Bibles.
Robert would come [Db] off the drums and [Eb] we would all go out and throw these Bibles out
and [Db] people would go crazy, [B] crazy.
The whole crowd would just, you know, [Eb]
trying to get a Bible.
Despite fans like Jim and [Ab] Tammy Faye Baker,
the first hard rock band with a Christian [E] message faced resistance from many of their church [Db]-going peers.
Some people thought we were [Abm] actually satanic, you know,
[Eb] and because of they [Eb] felt we were being, you [B]
know,
blaspheming God [Db] with the hair and the look and the [Bb] sound.
After two [Eb] gold-selling releases in 1986,
their third album, To [Ab] Hell With The Devil, went platinum.
[Eb] The top 30 single [Gm] honestly put Striper on the map.
[Bb] [Ab]
[Eb]
At one point the video was the most requested on MTV,
[Fm] beating out Poison, Motley Crue and [F] Bon Jovi.
[Bb] In 1991, [Eb] Michael Sweet left the band.
[Bb] Later [Cm] that year, the rest of Striper went [Bb] their separate ways.
[Ab] So where are Striper now?
[Db] Singer Michael Sweet has moved his [Fm] family from Los Angeles to Cape Cod.
He helps his wife run [Abm] their family business, Maple [Db] Park Campgrounds.
[Ebm] Ranger Mike is what [Gbm] everyone calls me around here.
[Db] And I drive a Jeep around and basically my role here is to make sure all the campfires are [B] out.
I show [Dbm] people to their sites and [Ebm] where their hookups are,
[Eb] deliver [A] messages, fill propane tanks, [B] eat a lot of ice cream.
[C] Ranger [F] Mike is also [C] Farmer Mike.
They have [D] a cranberry [C] business as well and they have 11 bogs and I help with that as well.
So I put on hip waders and get out in the water and go out there and corral these berries that are floating on the water and use these rakes.
That's something else I do.
I mow the ball field.
[Eb] [Ab] The former Striper lead [Gm] singer has not given [Bb] up music entirely.
He just finished recording his third [G] solo album, Truth.
[F] The remaining [Gb] members of Striper continue to pursue music.
Brother Robert Sweet is working on a solo record.
[G] By day Oz Fox works in an audio equipment distributor.

[Ab] By [Gb] night he and Tim Gaines inspire local fans with their band Sin Dizzy.

Invited to play a reunion gig [A] in Puerto Rico in 1999, Striper found out that outside their home turf they could still pack a [D] stadium.
And then when we pulled into the [A] show it looked like a [E] football game.
I [D] thought, what is this?
And the guy [A] said, that's where you're playing.
Just [E] a sea of people.
So will the band reunite to spread its message of the Father, the Son and the Holy Hairspray in the 21st century?
I look back [D] at some of the pictures now and it's just a riot.
I'm [E] in tears because the hair is so big.
And it's like, how did we get our hair that big?
[A] I would suppose if we ever [Em] reunited, it has to be before we all lose our hair, right?
[A]
[Em] One thing's for sure, the former members of Striper haven't lost their faith.
