Hey this is John with Learning Guitar Now.
This is podcast number 64 and in today's podcast I'm going to show you a blues intro that you
can use in the key of A.
So let's go ahead and start the lesson here.
I already played for you the lick.
What's going on in it?
I'm taking my second finger putting it on the A string on the seventh fret.
And then I got my first finger on the sixth fret of the G string here to form this sound.
[Dbm]
[G] [A] If you want to analyze it it's in the key of A so you have a fifth interval and a major third.
Then I'm just [Bb] moving that down [Dbm] one fret.
[A] [Eb] [Ab]
Same pattern [E] A string G string A string just three times.
[A] One two three [E] move it back one [Cm] two three same thing [G] again.
For the final chord we're [C] going to be sliding in from the third to the fourth fret on the A [Db] string.
[A] Hitting the root note A [E] on the G string so we got a major third here and [C] a [A] root.
One more time [Dbm] slow [Cm] and [Bm]
[A] then I'm going to walk up to the five chord E7 5 [D] 6 7.
[Eb] [E] And then play an E7 chord which is just your second finger first finger on the sixth fret
second finger is on the seventh fret of the A string.
First finger on the let's see it's the sixth fret of the D string.
Third finger on the seventh fret of the G string for [D] my E7.
[Eb] [E]
And [B] then I'm just hitting 7 5 [E] 7 A string on the seventh fret of your third finger.
[G] First finger on the fifth fret of the D string.
And [Em] then third finger on the seventh fret of the D string gives you this sound.
[A] Straight from minor pentatonic scale and then we're just going to play the standard blues [Em] rhythm.
[A]
[Gbm] [A] [E] So really slow that lick [A] [Cm]
[G] [A]
[D] [Eb] [E]
[Em] [A] and you can just use this as an intro for any slow blues.
There's a number of different things you can do for an intro.
You know just free guitar style you know there's no [B] really rhythm to it.
And then the band would kick in if you're playing with a band you know.
[Em] Right at this part [A] band kicks in or you know just a couple guitars just jamming the blues.
Here's a cool intro that you can do to start out the tune.
[Ab] [Bm] [Db]
[A] [D] [Eb] [E] [Em]
[A]
That vibe.
So it's just a really cool way to start out a blues song and
the next step is to start improvising that.
You know [G] you got [Dbm] this [Cm] you [Bm]
[A] [D] [E]
[D] [Db] [Am]
[Em] know and just start adding a couple licks here and there.
Change it around a little bit and then [Am] practice soloing over that groove.
This is just [G] a little blues intro in the key of A to get you started.
Just try to remember this lick.
Play it very smoothly.
You can change the tempo.
Play it slower.
Play it faster.
You know [A] faster.
[Cm]
[Bm] [A] [D] [Eb] [E]
[A]
Real slow.
[Ab] [G] [A]
[D] [Eb] [E] [Em]
[A]
