[G]
[F] Welcome back, y'all.
Gulf Coast [D] Museum, the [Bb] second offering from [G] Shiny Ribs, is full of [A] booty-shaking Texas
hippie soul [D] jams, but we also dig the tune [C] Olympia Hotel, [A] a song that Kevin Russell breaks
out the uke and goes with a more [Am] laid-back [D] approach.
Olympia [A] Hotel, you know, Olympia Hotel [D] is a [C] wonderful little place in Fort Davis, [A] Texas
that [D]
me and my family like to stay at.
[Em] That song is about a [E] trip, a [C] vacation we took [A] from southern [Bb] Colorado through New Mexico
[E] into west Texas during August a couple years ago.
[D] During monsoon season out there in New Mexico, that is the most beautiful time to be in New Mexico.
[B] As [Bb] you'll be driving down the road through the Chihuahuan Desert, and off to your [D] left
is rain pouring out of a [Em] cloud, a rainbow, [Am] over here the sun's shining on [Em] the desert,
and it's just the most colorful, beautiful [A] scenery.
[D] It's one of my favorite things.
We [A] had a really [Ab] magical trip just [G] driving through there that summer.
So that's kind of like just the story of that trip.
[A] It's sort of a [Bb] way of [A] recording that.
You know, I do [Bm] that a lot with songs.
I [G] write about things that happen, and sometimes [E] it's a narrative that everyone can [D] understand.
Sometimes it's a fragmented mess that only I can understand.
[G] Hound dog under [D] the apple tree, sun shining [F] shade,
[D] speckling [G] and hairy berlin.
[C] [G] Little boy now [C] on a cinnamon roll, he loves his mama [G] so, and he's [D] five years old.
[G] Tomorrow, rainstorm rolling over [D] New Mexico, the Chihuahua's green, [Bm]
Mesquite and [G] Ocotillo.
Eucas in bloom in the [C] new monsoon, the [G] desert verbena grow, and [D] the white sands [Bm] glow, and
for [D] now there's [G] no sorrow.
All of my [Em] shame
[C] fades [G] away in the [Em] cool [C]
end [D] of the day.
And I [Em] triumph, [C]
disappear with the [G] mire,
[Em]
and I [G] wake up with West [D]
Texas in [G] my eye.
[D]
[G]
[C]
[G]
[D] There's
[G]
[C] [G] flies in [D] my hair, [G]
[D] there's flies [Am] on my [D] eyes, flies [Am]
everywhere, [D] there's even [G] flies
on [D] the flies.
[G]
That's what happens in the desert, soon [C] as the sun rises.
That [G] hound dog ain't [D]
surprised, [G] and [D] the kitty cries, cause the pool is [G] too cold.
[Em] All of my shame [C]
fades [G] away in the [Em] cool [C]
end of [D] the day.
All of [Em] my triumphs [C]
disappear with the mire, [G]
[Em] and I [G] wake up with West [D] Texas [G] in my eye.
And I wake up with West [D] Texas in my eye.
